Possible LT scammer warning!!

Thanks for posting this info. I usually feel LT is pretty safe, but it seems people will try anything. I always wonder how productive they might be if they put their energy into a real job! This person has been pretty busy. Her daughter must have an amazing jewelry collection!

I received the *exact* same emails as the original post from DeannaHanchey on LT 10/10/16. The entire message seemed fishy, especially with the offer to pay more, and follow-up emails didn't match the original story, and person had an excuse for all types of online payments (paypal, credit card, money order...)

She did not get my ring :)

Anyone know how to report this person?

Here is the link to report this person, it's probably a scammer from Nigeria;

https://www.fbi.gov/contact-us

ttps://www.ic3.gov/default.aspx

The more of us that report it the more likely they are to investigate this person.

In the meantime I took the liberty to sign her or him up for as much spam, junk mail, annoying free offers and anything else I could find so their email is being bombarded by spam....

Thank you for warning! Received same mail from DH. Hopefully there are no victims of the scam.....

I got one too for my Four Peaks Amethyst!!!!

I got the same emails, from this person. Its pretty unbelievable when someone tries to offer you extra money.
I too got the "no paypal" response, when I said that was the only way I'd sell to someone.

This person had a very busy weekend. I hope no one gets scammed by her. :angryfire:

I got two solicitations as well. After the 2nd email (where she said she wouldn't use paypal) I said please do not contact further. The 2nd contact, just didn't respond. LAME!

I got one, too. I told her that I was so touched by her story that I was going to just send the ring and she could pay me at the end of the month when she's doing her other bills. If you google maps her address, she lives in a trailer.
I was going to call the police in her area. I would rather take it further than that mum going to do the FBI thing.
If anyone has any other Ideas, feel free to let me know. I wish, for ten minutes, I lived in N.C. I don't mean to offend anyone by my comment

Yes I almost wanted to say sarcastically if she was disabled living on a limited income and got financially wiped out by a paypal scam, maybe she shouldn't be buying expensive pieces of jewelry for her daughter...

I think that's a stolen identity. I doubt seriously the scam person is posting their name and address. That poor person probably has no idea her identity is being used.

I agree completely.

OMG, I wish I saw this sooner.

I got an email from this person via LT and at first I was sympathetic to her situation and said sure she could send me a cashier's check. Once it cashes I could send the ring out.

And then I realized that her story was getting weirder and weirder. Something about her daughter in an accident...some bull about her sending me too much money by accident and if I could mail her a check for the difference. When I said didn't feel comfortable dealing with her, she said "do you want my daughter to die?"

Grrrrrrr. Where can I report this person?

I know, right?!
I realize it's probably a stolen identity but it's nuts the effort the person would go into.
Unfortunate I already gave my address though. Ugh. I wish I had not done that.

found this when I searched the email address.

So guns and gems eh?
That phone number shows up in gun posts all over the place: Texas, Florida, NM

Briolette,

When you get the check it is almost certainly going to be counterfeit. Take it directly to your local police. So far with the rest of us she has merely suggested committing a crime, but by sending you a false check is actually committing a crime. Don't try to cash the check.

Has anyone contacted the woman with that name in NC? It makes me think her identity has been stolen as what I saw on her FB page looks pretty benign - no guns, etc., just a daughter...

Well, I'm definitely NOT going to want to cash the check. I don't want none of that dirty money! And it probably is going to be fake anyway. I had initially thought about sending it back or trying to contact the bank that's on the check.

But, good point about being able to bring it to the police as proof.

My biggest concern is that this person now has my mailing address :(

Sorry to see just how extensive this has been :(

Hi,
Got the exact same e-mail about a pair of earrings I posted 2 years ago! I too told her paypal only, she gave me the story about a disability, not leaving the house, being scammed out of $5k by PayPal and that her cc was gone as well. She had a financial clerk and the bank was monitoring all her transactions so she encouraged me to take her certified check and wanted to pay more. I stopped communicating with her then. Same name and e-mail addy.

Hope no one falls for it...

If she sends anyone a cheque, please take it to the police and report this person, if you try and cash a fake cheque you also can get into trouble..... She has changed her email address 3 times every time someone reports her on LT she simply changes her email contact address and starts again trying to scam people.

Wow, she is persistent! You'd think she'd try another site...

Wow! I reported "her" to Loupe Troop and they said they had suspended "her" account, but maybe "she" created another one. Keep reporting "her"!

I saw a warning post about her on weddingBee.
Interesting this person targets jewelry and wedding related sites.

Sorry you have all had to deal with this! I had to deal with a similar lady when I was selling a ring on ebay. She wanted it as a graduation present for her daughter and wanted to give me $200 extra. To send it overnight but pay by e transfer (no seller protection!) Soon after I received a warning from ebay that this was a "phishing" attempt and she was sending simar emails to many people. It is good we all are all here to support each other!

When I sold art dolls there was a scammer that tried to purchase one of mine. She usually does that then says she did not receive the item. I am so glad that I google people's names before accepting a sale! She had a huge history of fraud and there are even mugshots of her online! Soon after she tried to scam a well known art doll creator friend of mine in Spain but he had all his ducks in a row and paypal dropped her "not received item" case. I am not sure how she can have a paypal account for so long! So glad that is over!
Love that ammy btw Katharath!

Thanks everyone, I'm taking her check down to the police in the morning. Should I just block her, or should I let her know that the check is going to the police in the morning and I know that she's a scammer.

Don't warn her before you go to police, as that will tip her off to their investigation. After you give the police the check, just don't respond to her and give all communications to the police (unless the police tell you to do otherwise.)

Oh wow. I hope she gets caught.

In my last interaction it seemed like she was making up story about sending a check and since she was starting to change her story as a set up to ask me to send her money. She had claimed that her debtor accidentally sent too much money and asked if I could please wire her funds to help with her daughter's sudden accident to cover medical bills. That's when I stopped interacting with her (few days ago). For the record she called me a heartless bitch via email...so tempting to engage, but chose not to.

Yes I would echo this advice. Keep us posted if the police get anywhere with this!
