Hello Ladies!

Thought this might be a good place to post ideas for our lovely BMs...
Here''s one idea...

shelli_segal.jpg

I''m still trying to decide what to do.. I was going to have my mother make the dresses, but the fitting and shipping logistics were a nightmare. So... I''m off to try to find something that everyone can agree on and it''s worse than herding cats! I really wanted something in a chocolate color, but one bridesmaid with a pale complexion thinks it would wash her out. So this is the list so far: The Bridesmaid Dresses

wow! great website idea. I really like that acorn/dupioni watters dress. Beautiful!
I also like this dress by Watters..

rfath--has your pale bridesmaid looked at the darker chocolate brown? Sometimes the contrast between her pale skin color and the dark brown dress can be really striking. Several of the girls in the brown dresses on your link look pale to me.

rfath - I like your options for BM dresses. That first After Six one was one of my choices, but my teeny little skinny friend tried it on the other other day and it just looked like a nightgown on her. I know that if it fit her properly it wouldn''t look so nightgownish.. but it really turned me off to it. A lot of the rest of your choices are just simple spaghetti strap styles which will look nice on just about everyone one..

This is my favorite BM dress.. I really think it may be THE ONE!!

I just LOVE it.

I have to take part in this ! :) Here were my ladies... We thought the green was elegant for a winter wedding in New England and you never see this color anymore...

Here''s my girls'' dress - Mackenzie Michaels Style 88122, 2-piece Square-neck halter top with A-line skirt. Ordered through netbride.com

I think the flowergirls and ringbearer will be in this kind of color, but the BM''s will be in claret like the one below. I''m mixing and matching the colors to fit with our berry theme. FMIL has a lavender dress, my stepmom is thinking of green, my mom will probably do navy blue. I think my bouquet and FH''s bout. will be a mix of all the colors - red, blue, purple, green - while MOH and Best Man will be mostly red, BM''s and GM''s will be mostly blue, and mom''s, dad''s, grandparents, and ushers will be smaller with varying color schemes. FG''s will carry a couple small stems and wear floral wreaths, no basket.

jean - I absolutely adore the single stem callas that your BMs had!

JCJD - Your BMs will look wonderful. I like the mix and match color idea. I have toyed with the idea of different shades of pink for my BMs..I just don''t know..

Here is my color swatches, my girls are wearing driftwood ( my colors are brown and pink) and the other pic is the dress in a different color

Oopss...here are the swatches- my girls are wearing driftwood

Thanks Melissa! I think they will too! I was seriously shocked when all 4 girls decided they liked and wanted the same dress, but it''ll look awesome on all of them!

I am LOVING your most recent favorite for your BMs!! The sash is perfect and the dress will definitely compliment yours nicely!

Jessesgrl--first things first...love your name!!!!!!!! Ok, now that we got that out of the way....I LOVE driftwood! It's such a unique bm color and I think it will be beautiful! I love the color of the dress you posted, too. I think that's the color that I want for my bm dresses--is it the patina color?

Here is the dress i''m thinking of right now. It''s the first dress i''ve liked and I tend to be very indecisive, so i''ll probably change my mind, but right now i''m really liking it

I know this picture doesnt have the same effect without a model in it but this is the picture I have. It is for my winter wedding. It has a cowl neck and is black velvet.
I actually got them on sale at Brooks Brothers after Christmas sale so they were a great deal!

Lovey, the first dress you posted is amazing! If I hadn't already picked the dress for my BM's I would have put that one at the top of my list.

rfath, I agree with IslandDreams, I think the chocolate brown will look good against a pale complexion. You might still ask your BM to try it on, she'll likely be pleasantly surprised.

MelissaSue, I really like how that dress has the same sillouette as your dress; fantastic choice. I really like the idea of the contrasting ribbon on the waist too (that wouldn't be because I'm doing the same thing would it?

).

JCJD, I just love seeing your posts since we have the same color palette (opposite emphasis, but still the same colors). My BM's will be wearing the navy dress below, but I modifying it a little. We'll be removing the belt and using a garnet sash in its place. I like the little bling factor on the original belt, so I'm going to find some sparkly brooches to clip on the sashes.

I would have loved to use the garnet as the main color, but my friend just changed to that color for her June wedding, so I think this is a good compromise.

JessesGirl- Those dresses are really pretty. They look very classy. Do your girls all look good in them? I like the driftwood color too. I''m not usually a fan of neutrals, but that one has just enough oomph to make it stand out!

psuheather- that BM dress is really beautiful. It''s very sophisticated! I wonder how it looks on a real person. Its very pretty but it also looks like you might need a PERFECT body to wear it!

I was actually just having a giant me vs. model problem with my BM dress for my best friends wedding. This is the dress I am wearing. I picked it myself, so I can''t blame her..Its a pretty dress..

But see how good the models boobs look? Mine don''t quite fill up that top part.. even after the straps were taken up. i''m debating whether or not to have it pulled in just a little bit in the bust area, but the rest of the dress is so tight (in the ribs and waist) that I''m nervous that it won''t zip up. FIs mom will do it for me.. so its not a matter of paying for it.. its just sort of a pain..Its too bad we can''t all have perfect bodies.

Lollybear - that BM dress is SO pretty and simple and cute yet sophisticated!!. Simple strapless dresses like that are my new favorite. The garnet sash will look really pretty!!

Thanks psuheather!! yes it is Patina,, beautiful color! here is the Color, not dress I chose on an actual person not a swatch, the swatch makes it look putrid!

psuheather

Love that dress that you posted. Who makes it? I wonder if it comes in cocktail length... It is so hard to find a style that makes all the ladies happy at once! But I have to admit, I''m having a great time shopping!

Lovey--it''s made by jim hjelm...you can find it at www.jimhjelmoccasions.com under the occasions collection heading. I don''t think that they make it in cocktail legnth, but I''m sure you could get a seamstress to alter them. If you didn''t want to do that, they do have some really pretty cocktail length dresses also

Jessesgrl--still love that color! how do your bridesmaids feel about it? just asking cause i mentioned having a similar color way before i ever got engaged and a friend of mine basically gagged in my face

I think that she''s just not stylish enough to hang with us
emwink.gif

Melissa Sue--I thought about the whole body type thing with this dress....fortunately all my bms pretty much do have perfect bodies. I guess there are some upsides to having all gorgeous friends

psuheather- i love that dress too!

lovey- here is a similar tea length from jim too

Style: #JH9055T

I''m really liking the ''tea length'' which is in right now!

Do you gals think it would be weird to have bm wear short dresses for a wedding w/a morning ceremony but evening reception? wedding is in april 06... I feel like short is ok for the morning ceremony, but would it be strange for a reception in the evening? or who cares?!

oooh i like this one too!!!
jh8545.jpg

the gathered tulle at the top would echo the pleated top i have on my gown!! (the paloma blanca if you remember from my other thread is prob the one... hehe)

I keep trying to convince the pale-complected bridesmaid, but she''s not buying it. She also likes none of the styles that I posted, so I may just have to pull the Bridezilla routine and tell her that we''re going with one of them. My dress came in (yay!), but it''s 700 miles away, so I sent my mother to look at the Watters dresses while she was checking out my dress. The acorn color is actually a lot deeper than in the picture and very rich-looking with the silk dupioni. It''s got potential!

flopkins - when I first started looking at BM dresses I really really liked the tea length and shorter dresses. However, as i tried them on and my BMs tried them on I realized that they just were NOT formal enough for the wedding I wanted. For me it had nothing to do with evening or morning, but more to do with my vision of my wedding. I really want it to be classy, elegant, formal.. not cutesy..
So.. I guess you have to envision what you really want your wedding to look like. Tea length dresses are fun and cute and often VERY pretty.. but is that the look you are going for? It doesn''t matter if its in the morning or the night time, I don''t think. MY ceremony is in the afternoon and my reception is in the evening... so we are similar there..

I think the "who cares" option applies here. :) Go with what you think looks good and suits the style of your celebraton.

Wow, you girls all have GREAT taste!! BM dresses either have gotten a lot prettier across the board, or you gals are just really good at picking out the winners. Like them all a lot.

MellisaSue, have you thought about those silicone sticky-on things? I wore those to help fill out my last 2 BM dresses (so sad, having my massive-boobed friend in the dressing room with me for my fitting, "honey, do you want me to buy you some boobs?" She did. I wore them!!) I know you work at Vic''s and wonder what you think of them....they probably would help w/ fit but not tighten the rest of the bodice? Just a thought!

Funny that you say that PSU but my girls actually PICKED this color, I let them have the final decision...and I actually love what they chose! Jim Hjelm has the best dresses and color options!

heehee! I was just going to suggest the sticky boobs!

hmm. I''m not a fan of the sticky boobs (the nu-bra..) at least to wear on its own.. but maybe if i use them to stuff my bra that''d be okay. but they have ANOTHER thing at VS that I really WANT but am sort of embarrassed to buy there!! They are actually silicone bra stuffers (chicken cutlets if you will) but they say they increase TWO full cup sizes.. Its kind of rough when I know everyone there and have to buy giant bra stuffers!! They''re much fuller than nu-bra too..

These babies are $48 (nu-bra is 60.. so i think these are a better deal!) so I''d HAVE to buy them there and use my discount.
V215080.jpg

I really want them, at least for MY wedding, but I may wait for my friends wedding.

Ooooooh, the chicken cutlets are AWESOME!!! My even-flatter-than-me (well before the kids)-sister wore them for her wedding and they are GREAT! I think I''d prefer them to the stickies, but the strapless dress allowed room for them, but not a bra.

Can you get them at a different VS? Oh well, they will all know it''s for the fit of the dress!!

hehe those ''bra stuffers'' are awesome... i swear every time i see a display for them i have this uncontrollable urge to poke at them!!!!!

but on a more serious *ahem* note, i think they would work great! any chance a heavily padded strapless bra would work??!!

any way you can order them online?

I still have this great memory from working at VS many years ago of two older asian ladies who came in, I think they asked me for help bc I was the only asian saleslady there, and I showed them the water bras for some reason and they were so excited, they tried them on and they each bought two on the spot!! hehe... the look of pure joy on their faces is still with me...
