Potential Stone

Hello PSers, I have been lurking on this site for quite a while and have learned a lot. However, not enough to consider myself an expert. I would like your opinions on the following stone that I found in a B&M.

Cut: RB 6.15 x 6.09 x 3.87 mm
Weight: .90 ct
Depth: 63.10%
Table: 52.90%
Crown Angle: 37
Crown Height: 17.6%
Pavilion Angle: 39.9
Pavilion Depth: 41.6%

Girdle: Thin to Medium
Cutlet: None
Polish: Good +
Symmetry: Very Good
Clarity: VS2
Color: H

This stone has a cert from AIG and is laser inscribed.

What do you think? I ran it through HCA and it was excellent across the board. I also saw it in person and it appeared to have a lot of sparkle. Not quite as much as an ideal cut, but very, very close.

If I purchase the stone, I definately will get it appraised, but I don''t want to throw away my money getting an appraisal on a bad stone.

I don''t know if this is as true for FIC as for regular steep/deep cuts, but the site says that they should be set so the pavillion gets light. Anyone want to chime in on that?

Wow! That's one cool... set of numbers. I wish I could see that stone!

At first sight, I would have guessed it is an older cut - which would be even better news, IMO. These guys have allot of character, and finding one with fine proportions and allot of brilliance is no small feat.

For this one... I am glad to 'forgive' that bit of extra depth (most of the usual ideals have it 60-62%), because the bit over goes to a higher crown and everything else goes for it. Including size.

I don''t think I''ve ever seen a stone like that in person or even in pictures around here with those proportions. I really wish I could see this stone. FICs have less spread, but they have better scintillation so it''s really about personal preferences, really. Your stone sounds like a real beauty!

.. could be wrong, but as much as I know ''steep-deep'' efers to diamonds with pavilion angles over 41 & crown over 35. This one does not have a deep pavilion. => true FIC, IMO.

This, I don''t know. Relatively shallow pavilion should do well in a closed settig, IMO.

How much are they asking for on this stone? At this carat weight, under 1.0 ct, if the price is right this might be a good deal.

Thanks for your input, now you''ve got me excited. They are asking $4800 for the stone. That seems high to me, but it''s a deal compared to their other stones.

I want to correct a previous statement that I made. The HCA score is 1.1 and it is excellent in Light Return, Fire, and Scintillation, but good on Spread.

This one is listed under the 'Cut Quality Search' above - there's no link for it yet.

weight: 0.92
Size: 6.17-6.22
GIA grades: H / VS2
Cut: H&A , HCA: 2.7-VG (vg-vg-vg-vg)
Cost: $4500

I was expecting less, honestly, because the lab report is not GIA or AGS and there is no pedigree (AGS0, H&A, whatever) for the cut.

It may be that this lab is very reliable - I just don't know that bit, and assume that less well known 'names' come at a discount. Sorry I missed this bit reading your post first time around.

fics are steep/shallow
they rock if you like the look.
I like them a lot but they arent my favorite but they are rare and kewl enough to label a good one kicken

I wish that too... but in the meantime, those numbers can pait a (partial & aproximative) picture

(see attachment - hope it works).

I do not know anything about the minor facets, actual symmetry ... and those would be needed to actually get a virtual model as true to life as possible.
