Very good news!
Sorry to chime in late, but just saw this and I am so happy Dirk is doing well. One of my cats had chylothorax and had his chest drained a few times. My vet (this was over 25 years ago!) was so fantastic, sought out help from a top notch veterinary college, and put my cat on a low fat veterinary diet made by Science Diet. My cat lived for over 12 years after that, with no further problems or episodes. He died in his later years from effects of Hyperthyroidism.
I am happy to hear that your kitty had a full life after the diagnosis. This gives me a lit of hope that it can be reasonably managed.
Our 9 yo lab has a chest infection called pyothorax. His chest is full of pus and he was having trouble breathing. They drained what they could with a syringe and he is breathing better and is acting like his usual "cute dumb lab" self. He needs surgery to completely drain his chest though and to find the underlying cause of the infection. This type of infection is usually caused by a foreign body and he had a barb wire puncture to his chest a few years ago. The vet said it definitely could be from that. Unfortunately it could also be from cancer and our vet said that the prognosis would be very poor if so. Asking for prayers, dust, wisdom, etc.

@Gussie How's your sweet baby today?
I'm glad Dirk had a good weekend and is taking his meds! My baby in my avatar has congestive heart failure and takes numerous pills. She loves pill pockets and runs to her pills and barks, demanding them!![]()
This Is great news! Such a relief! The best news ever! Dirky had an ultrasound and it showed no fluid accumulation! We are beyond thrilled. He needs to go back in 3-4 weeks to recheck (or if signs of distress). Honestly, Google isn't always a good thing. I didn't expect to have such good news. I read that medical management for dogs has less than 30% success rate. Thank goodness diet and rutin seems to be working. Or his "leak" spontaneously healed. Either way, I will definitely sleep better tonight! So here is a pic of sweet Dirky. It's not the best pic but you can see his brothers in the background.![]()
