Preggo stuff, Baby Stuff, Toddler Stuff...post your best finds here!!

Baby carriers- Ideally, you want a carrier that keeps your baby''s legs in a froggy-legged position (when they''re teensy tiny) or their hips splayed (when they''re a little older), as those positions are ideal for hip and spine development. Especially since your back is a consideration, you also would get something that either distributes weight mainly around your hips (like an Ergo, mei tai, or Beco) or all around your frame (like a Moby or a woven wrap). I found a Moby to be very useful at first but it has a fairly short lifespan for me - I didn''t like it once he hit about 15 lbs, although I do know people who still use them for their 30 lb toddlers. The Ergo isn''t the most useful until they hit 4 months minimum as you''re not supposed to use it without the infant insert until they can sit on their own and/or they''re grabbing at their feet, but once you can use it, it''s just the best. (Caveat: I think that shorter women sometimes prefer a Beco to an Ergo.) I''ve had back surgery before but I can seriously wear him in the Ergo for hours, no pain. You can froggy-leg or splay their legs in slings, but the lack of anything around my mid-section to distribute weight well for me leaves me unable to use it for more than like 15 minutes.

I''ve found that I personally don''t have much patience for wraps, and so for baby #2 we''re going to use our BabyHawk mei tai for the newborn phase on up and also our Ergo once he/she''s old enough. But I know people who pretty much use wraps exclusively. A lot of it is personal preference.

Thanks for the information, Blen. I''m thinking it would be best for me to wait until the baby is born and then try out a few carriers and see what works best for me. I''ve cut and pasted your post so I have it when the time comes.

I have a Baby Bjorn Active carrier and the Tri-cotti sling. I use the sling a lot at the moment as it folds up small enough to go in the diaper bag and then I can pop her in it when she''s bored of being in the pram. I wish I''d had it when she was tiny.

If I''m going out for a long time and not taking the pram then I''d probably take the Bjorn although I am looking at other slings.

Like Blen, I''m tall and have back problems.

Another useful thing I have that you can use from 6 months is the Hippy Chick hipseat which means you can sit the kid on your hip whilst keeping your body and spine straight.

Yesterday we discovered this in a restaurant - the minui handysitt.

I''ve tried Daisy in loads of high-chairs when we''ve been out and they have either been too big, too dirty for me to want to use, or she has screamed blue murder and we can''t always have the pram next to the table.

D went in easily, was secure without a harness (that she hates) and was super happy for the whole meal. Although we had to keep an eye on her and talk to her, all 3 of us were able to eat at the same time and with both hands.

It folds flat and is small so you can keep it in your car, and is great if you don''t have much space or for grandparents.

Can you tell I like it???

Is anyone here cloth diapering an older baby? If so, do you have experience with the BG diaper sprayer or with the flushable diaper liners?

Kimberly - that sounds like a good plan!

This is T''s favorite b-day present if anyone is looking for gift ideas for your toddlers.

Grobag - LOVE it. I bought them off babysteals a month or so ago. M had been using it with a long sleeve onesie at bedtime. It keeps her nice and toasty. I got the 2.5 tog for winter. At first I thought it feels thin, but it does the job perfectly. I am trying to see if I can find another one on sale, but no luck.

Try Ebay - I got Daisy a load of new ones cheaply from there.

I think you have pretty pricing for them over in Europe. All the ones I saw on ebay US site are basically regular price. I got the ones I have (one 6-18 months, and one 18-26 months) for $18.80 each. I don''t think I''ll find another one for that price here. I''ll keep trying.

$18.80 is super-cheap!

Yeah I wish that I got more, but I don''t know the brand or anyone who used/recommended them. So I only ordered one in each size to try them out. I''ve just been washing and drying it on the same day, so M can use it every night. I can do that, but it would be easier if I had two.

Just thought I''d post here too for the preggos...I recommend getting a good DSLR before the kidlet arrives. In the beginning you do a lot of shooting in the house and don''t want a flash popping off when the kid is snoozing.

Current thread on cameras here

I got DH a Nikon D80 (DSLR) right after the baby was born, it takes great pics! We have a small pont-and-shoot that stays in the diaper bag, but the big camera gets the best shots.

I just got the Canon 780IS for $249 at amazon this summer (and it''s $199 at target right now). It''s tiny and 12MP. I particularly liked it because it takes HD videos which is awesome for quick vid''s of the kid.

I haven''t posted in a while, just lurking, but thought I''d chime in about the grobags.
qtiekiki try mamabargains.com they seem to have them on there quite often.

Mara, I found that the canon was what I reached for most of the quick videos. The 850 does remarkably well for what it is (I''m always surprised that the audio is decent). But the quality is starting to annoy me so I just bought a Kodak zi8 HD recorder so we''ll see if it''s much better. I bought an external mic for it too. I NEVER reached for our regular camcorder...I HATE capturing video (from tape).

anyone have a tricycle they love?

Sweet pea
I did get mines from mamabargains. They currently only have girl patterns in the weights and size I want. I want boy or neutral pattern, so I can reuse for baby #2. DD is using a blue one now. Thanks for thinking of me.

Lily has this tricycle and loves it:

I think it''s cute too--it''s not too big and very girly, just like our divas!

Thanks curly. I was thinking of the one with the parents steering bar and it is currently on sale right now at Target. Glad you like their quality. Can Lily reach the pedals?

fyi - several mommies recommended the aden + anais muslin blankets and i just noticed their "Winter Warmth - 2 PACK" blankets are on sale at baby steals right now.

i might have to try the grobag--C is always kicking off blankets--but she also likes to stand in her crib, so i wonder if being in the bag would annoy her....

in case anyone misses this sale, amazon has the 4 packs of 47x47 a&a wraps for about $40 (so $10 each wrap, cheaper than the baby steals deal)...and you can also get 44x44 4 packs at target for $30. this is what i put on my registry, but my mom also got me a 4 pack of 47x47 from a local boutique.

i spent some time last nite looking online for halo deals.... there are a few sites who have them for $15-17 so that is not too bad. does anyone else think they are so funny looking? hehe.

are the a+a wraps on amazon non winter ones? with a spring baby, i just would need the regular weight ones. also, i didn''t realize that they came in different sizes. the ones at buy buy baby are 4 pack of 44x44 for $30.

jcrow i think amazon has both... they have like 30-40 options on there! the ones target has are prob the same ones BBB has. the ones my mom got me are regular weight i think. i don't want winter weight as i just will use them for swaddling and covering the infant seat while we are out whereas we have blankets and the bundle me for when we are out walking etc. plus like you, we are in a warmer weather state so i don't need WW.

question for all the mom's who BF... did you just get a pump before the baby come and assume/plan to bf ? or did you rent from the hospital or borrow one first to try it out then buy one?

i want the medela hands free and i PLAN to exclusively bf at least 6 months. a few coworkers did it with no issues and we have a mothers room and a bunch of closed off conf rooms at work so i can pump when i go back to work. and the moms who i know have the free just love it esp for working moms..it's quick and easy they say. anyway it's $250 on ebay ($340 on target) brand new and sealed, so i'd like to just get it and assume my boobs will work correctly (they are big enough).

but i know some moms have trouble... so i was thinking is it smarter to rent or borrow for a while to make sure everything is going ok, then buy it? on the flip side, i already know the last thing i want to be dealing with when i have a 2-3 week old baby is trying to make a bid on ebay to get one for $250 whereas now i have the time to get a 'deal'. suggestions?

fwiw, my two cousins on my grandma's side who have had kids in the last 2 years say their boobs were great for BF'ing so i don't think i will have any 'issues' but who knows, it's so personal.

I rented before I went back to work mostly because I wasn''t really pumping. I pumped around day 5/6 to heal and then randomly while on mat leave to get a stash or go out somewhere. I bought the Medela before I went back to work when it was on sale for 15% off.

If you do purchase, I would not open it or break the seal until you know for sure that you are going to be using it.

Mara - I bought a small ($35) pump to have "just incase", but didn''t break the seals. After the baby did a number on my nipples at the hospital, I ended up renting the pump for a month and returning the small one. I ended up giving up BFing when the rental renewal was up. You might want to hold off on the ebay one if it''s not returnable. My mom BF 5 kids with no issue, so I don''t know what went wrong with me!

ditto - i''m researching and debating pumps right now too. i don''t think i have one to borrow, so it will be rent or buy for me. can you put a link to the pump you''re considering, mara?

anyone have this
delta jenny lind non-drop side crib?

i like the looks of it + the price. i thought they weren't convertible, but it says it converts to a toddler bed. and since we already have a full size bed, we really only need the crib + toddler bed.

it says non-drop sides, but then it says "childproof rail release". i'm sorta confused as to the difference? is rail release not the same thing as drop down side? i'm guessing not by the description, so what does it mean? also, does anyone have a pic of the toddler bed? i've been looking online and haven't come across a pic of it. oh, and do i need to buy any conversion kits for it? i don't think the one at bru comes with it.

Re pumps: I borrowed one (thank goodness) but you never know what will happen so if you do buy one don''t break the seal so you can turn around and sell it. I only ended up BFing for 6 weeks due to T having some serious stomach issues (reflux, intollerance) with my milk.
