Preggo stuff, Baby Stuff, Toddler Stuff...post your best finds here!!

thanks for all of the practical suggestions mara! I love a BTDT perspective. Also, have you found target to be difficult. I, too, read about the horror return stories, but am considering registering at a big baby store (buy, buy, baby) and target to give people options as target is e.v.e.r.y.w.h.e.r.e...

china - I would absolutely appreciate a list of your must haves

sorry lovin'' I''m not familiar with the graco model, though i do know moms here have used the spacesaver with much satisfaction (though there may be something about not being able to put the tray in the dishwasher...).

I''m a boon lover myself

Target IS everywhere, however, I have found that they have absolutely NOTHING when I try to shop for other people.

Do you have lots of BRU''s in your area? They at least have a much bigger selection, so if they are out of a few things, there is still more to choose from.

We did BuyBuyBaby and BRU. My sister did Land of Nod and Target, and my mom told me how hard it was to find things for her shower gifts. (Land of Nod is only online, and after going to like 5 Targets and still not being able to find her bouncer, PNP, or swing... was very frustrating.)

I also posted this on the pregnancy thread.

I''coo Targo Houndtooth Baby Stroller & Bassinet for $379.95 on shnoop.com

lulu, I was a huge fan of the FP Spacesaver because I live in an apartment and it was perfect because I certainly didn''t need another piece of furniture! I think Tacori had problems fitting the tray into her dishwasher but I never had an issues with it. This is definitely one of my highly recommended pieces of baby gear. You obviously don''t need it right away but if you''re living in small quarters, I can''t think of a better alternative. FWIW, I registered at BRU (which is everywhere too!) and Buy Buy Baby. At the time, BBB had some more "high end" stuff than BRU but I feel like they are practically interchangeable now.

lulu would you consider BRU?

lovin-are you looking for a high chair based on space? We have a very tiny dining room (Only a 4 seat table fits) and so we have this chair:

http://www.fisher-price.com/fp.aspx?st=2002&e=demo&pid=27475

I love it, again if you are looking for something to save on space. If not then feel free to ignore lol!

thanks curly and fiery - BRU is definitely a possibility. I just detest the one near my home and I think making me biased.

i registered at albeebaby, bru and target. kind of wished i did amazon too in hindsight. the downside of arget is that the in store selection is dismal. i had heard horror stories about the return process, but it was so easy. no receipt needed, i just took the stuff to the store, showed my id so they could verify it was on my registry and boom, gift card. bru is proving to be more of a hassle as i have to confirm the item is in stock at the store i want to return it at, or else i''d have to mail it back in myself and eat the shipping costs

.

as for the resgitry, i basically had the same approach as mara. we registered only for the basics then had some experienced moms look over it and give suggestions. def made sure we had a wide range of prices. we threw on some big ticket items (gear) mainly to take advantage of the completion bonus at the end, but you''d be surprised how generous people are when it comes to babies! most people bought a few practical items then went haywire with cutesie outfits that they chose themselves (the only clothes i registered for were basic white onsies, a few sleeping gowns and footed sleepers that i knew we''d NEED). in the end we got almost everything, except a few random things here and there as thankfully quite a few people bought us diapers and wipes, so we are well stocked for a while (i think) -- depends on how much a pooper my little guy will be i guess!

re: target for registry, i have been pretty happy with it. it depends on your selections at your local target but 1/2 of my stuff was online mostly. since i have a lot of friends who buy online that wasn't an issue. all their organic stuff is mostly online only as well. i managed to get pretty much everything we had on there so it worked out fine for me.

re: BRU...i am just not the biggest fan of the store. i know Mom people love it and i am starting to see more of it's merits as we get closer and i have gone in a few times. but it's only baby stuff and they are typically huge and badly organized (for me)..at least with Target's selection it was limited enough to where i could find what i needed in the store. i go to BRU a lot and am totally lost and confused! since most of my friends aren't Moms i knew they would not be familiar with a BRU. i have had friends go there for other friends and be like 'i was totally confused' as to where i find stuff. also a few of our BRU's here are kind of ghetto-ish hehee, Target is more mainstream and some of them are really nice and well-stocked.

we also don't have BuyBuyBaby here but if we did i think i might have gone that route because we have bed, bath, beyond here and i love that store. and i hear you can use their coupons at BBB too, which makes it a good deal AND then it's more like target in that they sell other things too.

re: target's return policy, if it is on your registry then it's not an issue to return it...even if they don't give you a receipt because you can just print one from your registry as long as they updated it to show it bought. but if it's not on your registry, and there's no receipt then you can only return $70 per year of merchandise. this isn't a huge deal because they just take your license and then they know when YOU hit $70. but i could hit $70 and Greg could hit $70 and a friend could hit $70. all they do is give you a nameless gift card for the store. so it's not a huge deal unless you have like one huge item for $300 with no receipt and not on your reg.

oh and re: amazon, they have a TON of options for baby online but yeah it's online only. i think in the end it comes down to who on your list will shop locally vs online. if you have a lot of older people buying you presents a lot of times they are not online savvy and/or don't want to give their card info online. if you have mostly younger friends who are savvy, they won't care about online and prob prefer it. and since i found that for all three of my showers (crazy i know) people would just walk into the store the DAY OF the shower and buy something in person, having enough 'local' stuff on the reg was important. i literally went in a few nights before to my local target and added a bunch of local crap just so people would have stuff to buy. i then returned a lot of it (clothes) and got the sizes i wanted or gift cards for future.

re: albeebaby - we're not registered there but someone purchased our newborn soothing center swing from albeebaby instead of buybuybaby because it was on sale. problem was that we found out that sil has a swing we could use and we were going to return the newborn soothing center swing, but there was a $25 restocking fee + shipping to return it to albeebaby. i'm not sure how they handle returns when it's something on your registry, but if it's restocking fee + shipping charge [provided that there's no local store], that would stink.

re: buybuybaby - yes you can use bed bath and beyond coupons there. we''ve done it no problems. we''re registered at buybuybaby and so far like it. haven''t had to return anything yet, though. they have a great selection of regular stuff, high-end stuff + organic stuff which is exactly what we were looking for.

in my research, i found in general:

buy buy baby = regular stuff + organic + high-end
babies r us = regular stuff
baby earth = organic stuff + high-end

Thanks, Fiery! My concern is that the original Fisher Price Space Saver chair I had planned on will have to be attached to the dining room chair. (We have breakfast bar and stools but no kitchen table w/ everyday chairs, and I am concerned that the dining room chairs will not be a good fit for a messy baby seat since they are partly upholstered), soooo I'm thinking for us, it might be smarter to just get a regular stand-up high chair that we can keep in the kitchen area near the breakfast bar most of the time. Sorry that's kind of complicated!

I like the look of the Graco Blossom 4 in 1 and it seems to be getting pretty good reviews from buyers online...just wanted to run it by the PS crowd in case anyone else noticed problems with it. For example, I read that some high chairs are bad b/c the "T-bar" is attached to the tray and so I guess that's less safe for the baby when you remove the tray (despite the harness??). Lots to sort out... this is the Graco Blossom I'm looking at: http://www.amazon.com/Graco-1751640-Blossom-Highchair-Townsend/dp/B001QFJ10I (in the blue and green color).

That raises another interesting question. Generally, people show up to the shower with presents in hand, right? So if they order online, do they have them sent directly to the host''s house or to their own house and then can bring them in hand? I could see people preferring not to have to send things ahead via online registries and be worried that they didn''t arrive in
time. But hopefully it won''t be too big of a problem cause I think we''re going to use Amazon exclusively! They do have that nice Universal Registry button so you can flag things from other bricks and mortor stores (e.g. Babies R Us) that you''d like and that gives the guests an option if they want to do last minute, in person purchases too. Most of our invitees are young and web savvy so we''ll see how it goes...

We''ve got a version of the space saver type, and put it on our upholstered dinning chair with a sheet of platic under. Works great and keeps the seat clean. The Blossom does look neat though! I can see the T bar issue, I tend to take the tray off, turn around and grab a wipe, wipe the kid down, and then pull him out. I also don''t buckle him in half the time, so with no T bar I can see how it could be a safety issue. The little monkey is starting to try to climb out himself now too

Question for the BOB lovers--can you get any kind of bar or tray for the revolution? If not, do your kids miss having that or do they prefer being free and open to the world:-)?

I got the parent''s tray/caddy so I had a place to put a drink, keys, etc. I don''t think DD missed having a tray (she had one on her chicco). I got a cord (not sure what they are called but they sell them at BRU) that attached to her sippy and her snack trap on the side of the stroller. Also there are little pockets on the side of her seats where I will put a toy.

About BRU, is it clean and fancy no BUT it has everything I need, for a good price (good coupons/sales) and the employees have ALWAYS been friendly. I guess I don''t care about the environment as long as it is safe and has what I need. I hate paying more for the same thing somewhere else. They just opened a BBB here but I haven''t been to it. It is in the same shopping center as BRU so I guess I will go with who has the better sale.

Price comparison has been a huge consideration in choosing our registry and to my surprise BRU was more expensive than some other options on a lot of products - like the boon is $20 more than at target or buy,BBB. However, they do have free shipping and coupons which can evens things out. My gripe with my local store is that it seems whatever I need is never in stock . . .

lovely I got a killer deal on my boon through amazon. Might want to check there if you end up buying it for yourself.

thanks Tacori!!! How old was T when you started using the BOB?

thanks tacori! I will definitely check there

Another good space-saving high-chair is this: the Minui Handysitt

We have one as it saves all the grandparents having to have them, plus we take it with us if we are going out for dinner and so don''t have problems with ones in restaurants.

It also doubles as a chair if you add the back legs.

That''s how I feel about BRU also. The one by me is very organized (everything to do with feeding in one section, bedding in another, clothes in another, etc.) and it has everything imaginable. The target in my area are all Super Targets but I can never find any baby things that I need.

We registered at BRU and at a local store. Target appears to have a lot on their website, but they rarely have the item that I am looking for in store. BRU has started stocking higher end items and organic on their website, but you still can''t find them at a lot of the stores. However, they at least have a decent selection of basic baby items in the store and they are well organized. BBB seems to be much better about having the selection in the stores so that you can try out everything in person, which was great when we were shopping for strollers. However, there aren''t as many BBBs around as there are Targets and BRUs. BRU seemed like the most accessible option for people shopping off the registry who wanted a brick and mortar store. The other registry was local to us but not to others, but included cloth diaper and organic type stuff. We had some people order things from the local store''s registry to be shipped to them, and then they gave them to us at the shower. Other people had them shipped straight to us. But I found that a lot of people wanted to shop in person, and so I think that it''s good to have an option where they can shop off the registry in person.

I just went and compiled a list of things that we got that we used more than once or twice, plus things that we obtained later that in retrospect would have been nice to have from the start, just in case it helps anybody. We registered for a couple items of clothing for the express purpose of letting people know that we considered brown, blue, and things with animals on them to be gender neutral (we didn''t find out ahead of time). People had a lot of problems finding the specific pieces of clothing in the store based on the registry description, and so just got us whatever they wanted. I would also not register for blankets unless there are a particular type of swaddling blankets that you really want. Same with rattles. We were given about 25 blankets and 8 rattles, if I recall correctly.

i totally agree with Blen re blankets. i just reg''d for A&A muslin wraps..and we got those plus all these random blankets. people love you give you a lot of soft plushy blankets for the kid. i think we have like 5 of those synthetic plush ones. i really won''t use them too much but they might come in handy. the rest of my blankets were knitted by my mom or my MIL and i have 8 of the A&A wraps and about 10 of the regular flannel receiving blankets that people gave us.

other things that people LOVED to give us were baby bath products. a bunch of bath boys, the rubber duckies, we got like 5 bottles of Aveeno oatmeal wash which Moms seem to love, and all this burts bees diaper stuff, ointments, and other brands that Mom''s really tend to like. we are set for bath stuff for like a year probably!

things we didn''t get at all from the reg, and i had to buy with gift cards were diapers, wipes, waterproof pads (18x27 and a 13x17 size), burp cloth diapers, most of my boob/bf stuff.

I didn''t buy a single item of clothing pre-baby. We got so many clothes from showers and family.

I take that back, I think I did go buy some plain white onesies but that was it.

I didnt reg for any of those synthetic plush ones, but like you say everyone loves to give plushy stuff. And I didnt think Id use them, but they are actually handy I think for wrapping over baby when we go outside, especially now in the winter with all the rain. I figure synthetics absorb less moisture than natural cotton and can keep him warm.

The other thing about those types of blankets is they become the favorites when they get older (or at least they have for T). Blankets are her comfort item and she always picks the soft ones!

RE: BOB stroller....i got the snack tray for the single when we used it. but now that we have 2, when i got the car seat adapter, it comes with 2 snack trays for the kids. B uses it sometimes, but not all the time. and as tacori said, there is a pocket on the inside where the kids can put snacks, or a toy or whatever.
