What about E/W semi bezels for the stones, with open pavillions for extra brilliance?

Oooh yeah, agree!

Aww, thanks Chrono, you are very sweet. I'm deep in the busiest time of the year (I'm a PhD student) and my bf's brother asks for e-ring advice and suddenly I'm deeeeep in PS again. It's good to be back, but I really ought to be writing term papers!

I''m popping in quick from work, so I only have a sec. I really like bezels/semi bezels, but wouldn''t that make the ring even wider? I can always ask Michael to do a CAD like that. AJ''s ring is like that, only her bezels I think are n/s I think. Similar anyway. Leon has a 3 stone ring w/a yellow square center and white trap sides, and that''s what gave me the idea to do the prongs that way-it looks so pretty on that ring. I don''t have the ring saved on my work computer or I''d put up a picture. pretty tho.

Will be back after work!

What type of stones are they?

IK-the center is chrysoberyl and the sides are either zircon or topaz

I emailed Michael last night and asked if he could do CAD''s w/semi bezels too. I still think I like prongs best for it, but who knows? This was the LM ring that I''d seen w/the prongs I like, and the stone colors I''m using.

yeah, that is gorgeous, but I still think for the design you have, the half-bezels would look better. Plus, I LOVE LOVE LOVE Michael E and his work, but I feel like no one can really capture Leon''s prongs. I''m sure they will still look good, but they might not have the same aura.

got another one tonight! he said the cutouts can be anything so I asked about filigree. I also asked about doing the bezels on the e/w instead of the n/s..and how much bigger the whole thing would be w/bezels as opposed to prongs. I don''t want to get into costume territory you know?

Oh, that last one is very nice!

Neat new cab! I like the semi bezels.

Maybe it''s just the CADs but the semi bezels make it look kind of bulky. I like the cut-outs much better than the solid metal.

hey pack,
those semi bezels on my JKT are E-W; I prefer that as then you can admire the profiles of your stones

here''s the thread if you need it JKT bezel 3 stone, and I can find the measurements of the stones to give you an idea if need be?

Thanks everyone! AJ, ha, I was positive the bezels were the other way-so positive in fact that I didn''t bother to double check hahaha that''ll teach me eh? I so love your ring too, so you''d think I''d remember correctly. I''ve had it saved in my inspiration file for a long time!

Sure, do you mind checking the dimensions on the stones?? How wide is the ring on your finger?

Michael emailed last night that the bezels won''t work e/w unless there''s no cutouts. He said you''d have the bezel cutouts and the thickness of the sides together showing as a yellow/white area in the cutout.

He said he''d do a top down w/the n/s semi bezels today and side/top down w/prongs also and send them later on.

I really like the cutouts! And I too would go for E/W semibezels so you can get that gorgeous view of the pavilions. Looks like it''s coming together nicely!!

Slowly but surely we''ll get it!

I think bezels flow a lot better with the design than prongs, but E/W semi-bezels are a great idea and would be less bulky. Also, for the sides of the ring, one more thought...maybe instead of cutouts it could be completely open? Or just 2 cutouts leaving 3 larger spaces?

Your ring is going to be gorgeous!

Thanks April!

I''m not much of a fan of n/s semi bezels, so I''d much rather have them e/w but Michael said it wouldn''t work that way. I''m torn on the cutouts or having it be completely open. More to ponder!

okey dokey this is what I''ve got now!

This is the top down of the semi bezel

aaaaand next up is the prong version!

I''m still leaning towards the prongs. The n/s semi bezels seem a little much to me, like overkill w/the rails. I think the prongs would leave the top view open enough and it would still look a lot like that first CAD w/no prongs. I don''t think they''d be real noticeable. When I first saw the one w/the prongs, I thought it was actually e/w semi bezels..I had to read the email again until it clicked for me, what he says about the rings under the stones that hold the prongs.

This is what he said about them:
Please remember on these that they are all just off the cuff sketches and that there are many things that would get shifted and modified in a "real" piece. For instance the rings under the stones that hold the prongs are a bit too large and the gallery is just sort of a tossed together guess as to where those bars are located.

I agree with you. Looking at both of these CADS, the prong set is much more discrete.

Love the cutouts. I think think that in real life, the bezels will look less bulky, and I think that''s the way I''d go, but I think either way you''ll have a sweet piece.

Prong set please! For a bezel girl I am making that statement too often these days!

Thanks Uppy, Velouria, and SCG!
You know, I always figured I had some sort of sweet spot for bezels and would always think everything but the kitchen sink should have a bezel, but this ring for some reason pulls me towards prongs. If I did bezel/semi bezel, I''d take the rails off. (so, SCG, I know how you feel!)

I was in the middle of a reply to Michael this afternoon after the last images he sent and we went out to clean the trucks, so a few hours later when I finally sent the reply, I had another CAD waiting to look at! It was raining CAD''s today!

This one has filigree in the gallery and super thin semi bezels.

I like this one! I wonder if he could do a cad of this w/o the rails???

I think you just have to decide what kind of aesthetic to go for. If you want modern and sleek, I would say bezels and open gallery or sections. If you want a more antiquey, feminine look, I''d say prong and scroll gallery. I personally prefer the former. It''s much more unique and elegant, especially for something of that size.

For the modern look, is there anyone that the rails theselves can function as semi-bezels? Almost like channel-set on a much larger scale?

I''m having a hard time imagining this ring without the rails. Would also love to see a CAD of that! The rails seems very modern to me, which is part of the reason I prefer no-scrolls and no-prongs.

Honestly, though, it''s gonna be a pretty awesome hunk-o-jewelry no which way you go.

Tough choice! I also agree with Vel in that you''re going for two different looks. I''d prefer to see the bezels with the open gallery, and the prongs with the scrolls...but, I do like the last CAD with thinner bezels.

Sorry, I didn''t explain myself very well w/the taking off the rails thing. I meant I would just do an oval bezel or semi bezel ring instead. This is the look I''m going for. (except w/yellow center and the stones will have pavillions) Simple but a little different I guess I would call it. Maybe I''ll see how low it can sit and have it open like Kismets.

Kismet''s ring. (I hope it''s ok I put this in here Kismet! I''m feeling pretty slick that I''m in Explorer and can drag pictures over..if this works anyway.)

It worked!

Sorry, I''m a nerd and I''m happy I learned to do something new today!

Prongs. And I think you need to keep the rails. That has been the one element that has been constant from the beginning (besides being a three stone) I think you should stick to that rose cut oval 3 stone of Leon''s. Rails, prongs, big beautiful stones, and that just leaves the profile.
