John, your tale and Brian''s pictures really showed what is really going on there!!

Lesley, I am so happy to hear you guys made it safely...it''s odd to think we were just there last week.

Continued prayers and best wishes with everyone still in the path and staying behind...be safe!

Thanks for letting us know yourself how you are doing, Lesley. John certainly gave us a flavor of what it was like at the airport, and the media have been covering the situation with the roads. Every time I read that one more of our "family" is safe, I feel relieved.

Warm hugs for you, too
Deb

They must mentioned on the news that the highways are very much cleared and travel is much easier today. All I can say is get out.

I agree with the, "get out" part, but I saw traffic stalled behind a burning bus on the highway to Dallas in this morning's footage. That didn't look clear at all. Nor did the distribution of fuel among motorists who had run out while sitting on the highway sound very well-coordinated. The official interviewed said they were "kind of making it up as (they) (went) along" because no city had evacuated this many people and they hadn't expected this.

Hi to all of you!

We finally arrived at our destination, weary but safe. I have never seen anything like it! After a whole night of packing up the house and deciding which few things to take with us, and then the traffic, it was great to get onto the plane. There were no meals as the meal service staff hadn''t shown up, but no one really cared.

Thank goodness we have a solid inet connection here at my friend''s house on the east coast, and as long as our servers stay up, we''ll be able to answer e-mails. Because our whole system is hosted on remote secure servers, we can be anywhere in the world and access everything. We have huge generators that can keep the system powered for several weeks. I want to thank John for keeping his watchful eye over everything and Bob and Denise for keeping up with the e-mails and orders. Our other sales staff have tried to get access but are having a harder time logging in. Renee called this morning and she is safe, Judi has left town. I don''t know where our production staff have gone - I will try and call everyone tomorrow. I have to tell you that Denise and John were at their phones all day long. We have all told Denise and Bob to get out of Houston, but so far they are still there...I think Jamie and Daniel may be too, but I can''t get hold of them. Let''s all pray that Rita bypasses Houston and that we can all come home on Monday.

It is especially at times like this that we REALLY feel the power of the ''Pricescope Family''. Warm Hugs to you all!

SO, so happy you made it out of town safely. I''m sure the trip was harrowing with all the chaos that ensued, but I''m just SO relieved you are someplace safe. I hope Denise and Jamie follow your lead and get to safe haven.

I agree with Mara......feels SO surreal having just been there last week (and knowing that we initially had been planning for THIS week).

Thanks for checking in with us and letting us know you are out of harm''s way. Very comforting to know our friends are safe!

My mother lives next door to my sister and brother-in-law in Kingwood. I called this morning and they said that several of their neighbors tried to leave town and ended up coming back because of the traffic congestion. They have decided to just ride it out.

The local paper for Ft. Bend county said not to leave unless it was absolutely necessary. The mayor of Houston just had a press conference telling people to Hunker down and that now was not the time to evacuate.

To everyone is harm''s way: Stay safe!

I saw traffic stalled behind a burning bus on the highway to Dallas in this morning's footage.

It has turned out that that burning bus was the scene of a horrible tragedy. A bus carrying elderly people exploded.

"The bus was carrying 44 people - 38 residents and 6 staff members - from Brighton Gardens of Bellaire, an assisted living center in Bellaire, a suburb southwest of Houston, when it caught fire on Interstate 45, the main highway connecting Dallas and Houston. The explosion occurred near Hutchins, a suburb about 13 miles from downtown Dallas.

Witnesses talking to local TV reporters said there was smoke coming out of the bus which was pulled over to the side of the road before it exploded at 7 a.m. Central time. Traffic behind the bus stopped immediately and was backed up 17 miles within 10 minutes and more than 20 miles shortly thereafter. People jumped out of their cars and tried to get into the bus, breaking through the windows, to get the people out. According to reports, at least 14 people did get out of the bus alive, though injured.

...

The bus appears to have caught fire because of mechanical problems and the situation might have been made worse when patients' oxygen tanks started exploding, Don Peritz, a spokesman for the Dallas County sheriff told The Associated Press."

Here is the latest from the National Hurricane Center:
10:30 am - From National Hurricane Center: Rita has weakened since yesterday. The eye is not as distinct and the convection is not as intense as 24 hours ago. This is consistent with the central pressure which has risen to around 927 mb and winds have decreased. The initial intensity has been adjusted down to 115 knots. Unless another eyewall cycle occurs that could bring the winds temporarily up a little bit...the overall tendency is for Rita to weaken gradually. So far the passage of Rita over the warm eddy in the Gulf of Mexico has not resulted in intensification. However...research suggests there is a lag in the atmospheric response. Nevertherless...rita is expected to make landfall as category 3 or...a little less likely...category 4 intensity.

Stay save everyone, and if you can GET OUT!!

Rita is now a catagory 3. I walked the dog around noon and noticed the wind was starting to pick up a little bit. Now it is expecting to be like Alicia which won''t be too bad at all. Hurry up and wait!

Hi Lesley

Are you at your friend''s house here in FL?

Hope youi''re flight wasn''t too rough.

If you''re hear, let me know and we''ll do dinner or whatever.

It hasn''t even rained in Richmond, just some wind, we''re expecting only 40-50mph winds. I''m exhausted, so I''m going to sleep. I''ll be back in the morning. I feel for East Texas and West Louisana, but I''m so glad Rita isn''t hitting Richmond & Houston.

Glad to hear that the WF family and Houston PScopers for the most part is safe. We''ll need to do a roll call next week! Will definitely continue to keep you all in my prayers as the damage assessment begins..

I read on CNN that Rita is now a Category 1...I can''t believe how it drops so quickly!! Apparently it''s done some minor damage..but CNN didn''t have too much data.

My Parents are out of power, they said that the lines are down all over town. Tree limbs and whatnot, but by no means was Houston hit as hard as was projected. WHOOOHOOO, I do feel for Beaumont and LC and the other cities that are hit harder.
The word is that we are not to go back yet, as the rain is just picking up and they don''t know if it will flood yet. Also, the freeways are closed and a few of the freeways where already in gridlock from Austin, Dalls F/W,and from all around Houston, and there is no gas anywhere. The Mayor just got on and encouraged people not to come back yet, to wait until at least tomorrow or Monday, emergancy crews need to get to places as well as 18 wheelers to replenish the lost gas, Houston and the areas surrounding are completely out of gas, I know that I am not going to be one of the people who rush back and get stranded, you know?

Glad that Apple, you are safe, Ginger/Hou? Y''all alright?

Thanks for all the good vibes everyone, we appreciate them! :)

Present! And none the worse for the wear

We''ve sort of begun the process of un-bunkering the house, but mostly we''re all sleeping. The last few nights our sleep has been short and somewhat fitful.

Glad we weren''t the bullseye, but sad for those who were.

My mom and I cooked like mad women the past two days, getting ready for loss of power, now we have to eat everything
20.gif
. My parents are all like, I told you so
20.gif
. I don''t care. It could have been WAY worse. I prefer to be prepared for the worse and hope for the best.

Apple? Ann? Hou?

Straw -- glad to know you''re ok!

Thanks to everyone else for your concern and well wishes. It''s like another family on PS!

Ginger and Renee,

I am glad you are well!!!

Deb :-)

damn am I glad you are all present and accounted for and ok.

Hey guys and gals!

Here at my parents'' house just north of Tyler, TX....it''s been raining and windy, with gusts here and there, but nothing too major. Just found out about 30 minutes ago that our exams are postponed until the first week in October, which makes me a very happy girl!!!!!!!! Now all we have to do is watch the gas and the traffic to help us decide when to head back to H-town...will probably go on Monday or Tuesday.

I''m glad to hear everyone''s safe and sound!!! We''ll have to have one helluva H-town get together soon to share our stories!! :)

Here! No damage at all, just leaves in the yard, thats it. Kind of disappointed b/c of all the stress and preperation in advance. The BF went back to his place this morning and everything was fine there too. I'm so bored, and no grocery stores are open. I might go hang out with the BF for the night b/c I've been confined to the house since Wednesday afternoon. My office hasn't updated their emergency line message, I actually can't wait to go to work. I was in the middle of a huge project last week and am hoping the office is open on Monday.

I''m so glad you (or should i say y''all
9.gif
) are save! We didn''t get a lot of info here, so I''m really happy everybody is accounted for.!!

Hehehehe, Rockchick, that was a very appropriate use of the word "y''all"!!!!! Very nice. :)

Glad to see everybody is safe. Dallas (Plano) didn''t get so much as a drop of rain. We were so concerned about Weston''s parents as they live in Pasadena, and his step-sister and b/f live in Baytown, but thankfully nothing happened and everyone''s houses are fine..

Appletini, funny that you live in Richmond - Weston grew up in Richmond Rosenburg, and took me on a tour of his old haunts when we were down there for Christmas. Glad you made it through ok.

we made it okay where we are in Louisiana. looks like the storm was better than expected in my town. I know not far away from me are lots of flooded homes and streets... they have been doing search and rescues.

So I just got back to my apartment on the south side of Houston (near Pearland) and the only evidence that anything resembling a hurricane came through here was the fact that the clocks on my microwave and stove were blinking...hehe.

Turned out to be no big deal, but there was no way of knowing on the day that I left. I''m still leaving town the next time it looks like a Cat. 5 is heading toward H-town!!!

Glad you ladies are all ok. Phew. A good friend of my bf (and now mine too,) is from a small town near Lake Charles, LA and a huge 100+ year old tree fell into her childhood bedroom
7.gif
Luckily no one was hurt, but it is still devastating!!

We are back also. All is well here. Our yard and pool were a disaster, but no damage to the house. I still can''t believe we did not have trees on our house.

We did not have power until Sunday night. It came back on just as we were coming home. Yee Haw!! We just got cable/internet this morning.

I have my 88yr.old mom with us. Her assisted living apt. has no electricity. My brother, his wife and college age son are coming to my house tonight to stay for who knows how long! But it''s ok, at least we are safe. The heat is unbearable, but at least we have ac.

Glad all H-town PS''ers are ok.
