I purchased a new diamond so I needed a new platinum head put into a cathedral platinum ring. How much would you say it is to replace the head and the labor to mount a 1.50 qt princess stone? Last time I did this platinum prices were 25% lower. Just curious what is the current rate for this work?

it totally depends on the jeweler and your location. ballpark labor would be $150-$250.

The prices for platinum heads will vary a bit with the design and the source but expect the part to cost at least $100-$200. The cost of labor and the assumption of risk will be different for each craftsman and will be based on how much they value their time and experience, how thorough a job they plan to do as well as their estimation of the risks involved. The cheapest is not usually the best and visa versa. Your chances of this ending up as a happy experience go up if you choose your craftsman, then ask the price, not the otherway around.

Just be sure the jeweler is experienced with platinum. I hear reports here all the time of how many jewelers use gold solder on platinum rings -- and it turns that part of the ring yellowish over time. Congrats on the new rock!
