Hello, I have looked at some threads about spread and aside from doing the calculations, when looking on pricescope what is the ideal spread value? ie: 0? -1, -2? -3? +1? +2 ?

thank you

That will be 0% from spread, I think that is calculated with tolkowsky proportion. If you go to the diamond prices search engine and use the In-house search, 0% will be the ideal spread for the weight.

Generally, the spread will be lower, around -2 to -5% for well cut H&A stone of near tolk proportion, as they will have a girdle thickness. Some spreadier cut, usually large table shallow crown height stone will have better spread but probably loose out in fire performance.

Sorry stone cold, I am kind of confused by your post.

I cant tell if you are saying I should choose a stone that shows a 0% spread or one that has -2, -5?

Ideal is 0%. In reality, many H&A are more like -2% or -5%. At least that's how i read what he wrote!

You can try and find one, there are some with 0% spread but most will have smaller spread.

Just try it with the diamond price above, there will be some that are H&A using the cut quality search and then use the in-house diamond search to see what their spread is.

Hi Jay

Just a word about spread, with a well cut stone the spread or face up size will normally be within desirable range, it never hurts to check it of course as part of the overall evaluation but generally with well cut/ top cut stones the spread should be in the right region.
