Hi All :wavey: - New to the forum, but I have been lurking here & learning as much as I can for about a month now.

I know I may have done this a bit backwards, but I'm just looking for confirmation from some of the regulars that I'm not making any major mistakes here. I really want to surprise my gf with the proposal, so unfortunately I haven't been able to get any input from her. Just from knowing what she likes, sparkly (what girl doesn't I guess though), unique, and white/silvery metal, I came up with the below setting in platinum.

And below is the diamond that I'm thinking of putting in the above setting.

I've budgeted $10k for the Ering and GOG was able to help out a bit and it's coming in slightly over budget, but I'm ok with that. Does that seem reasonable to spend on a combo like this? I've def seen larger princess cuts in my price range on some other sites, but I know its hard to compare fancy cuts based on stats alone.

I welcome any and all thoughts/recommendations. Thanks everyone!

I think that's a great stone and a beautiful setting. It's going to look gorgeous!! I don't think you have anything to worry about. Jonathan is great at finding gorgeous stones.

I think you could get a bigger princess and still not go over your budget.

But did she say she wanted a princess? or she didnt even give you a specific shape?

ETA: because that would be a beautiful ring, but not very unique. My concern is maybe a different less common shape might be more the ticket, if shes craving uniqueness

things that say unique but still classic to me are things like, colored stone halos, three stones with unique shapes (marquise with pears, ovals with half moons, 3 pears, three ovals, emerald cut with trapezoids) or E/W setting stones (ovals, marquise, or emerald cuts turned sideways)
these are all things i think you could accomplish with a larger that 1ct stone and within your budget.

You can go down in color and clarity, there are a few on GOG. Im also thinking of single claws for the setting.

Thanks 04Diamond<3! It's actually pretty strange, but after reading this forum and seeing some of Jonathan's handy work, I have come to trust someone that I've never even met. Ahh the internet age...

That is a nice looking stone Nieseel, but it's about $1k over budget based on the setting I've chosen. And you are right, this wouldn't be that "unique" of ring. Maybe I need to elaborate on what I mean by unique. I just know she likes things that are well done and not something off the rack, so while this form factor may not be too unique, I think the double x prong is not something you'd see that often.

Anyone else have any feedback? What about the Med Fluor? Would anyone here be disappointed to get a diamond that fluoresces? I'm just really concerned about this whole purchase, because I'm fling blind and I've never bought jewelry before... Sorry if I'm rambling.

ok, well get what you're going to get. You know her best. but double claw prongs doesnt make the overall ring "unique", its a lovely higher end detail, but its not going to turn a common style into a unique ring. You can a ring more unique AND well made.
But again if you're sold on it then go for it. It would make a very lovely ring, though I would not call it unique. :)

Maybe consider a POH or Asscher?
still keep the great setting and its still a square stone, but with a twist

Did she say she specifically wanted a princess? I'm asking because people have very strong opinions about diamond shapes and princess is definitely a love-it-or-hate-it shape.

That diamonds si2 clarity grade is based on clouds not show according to the gia report.
A significant number of such diamonds will have performance issues because of the clouds.
They need to be looked at by an expert.

Obviously he would/should talk to them before just buying, which is why they have a gemologist on staff. I posted the video which shows that this looks eye clean but he would still have to talk to someone about it prior to making any decisions......
