Hello,
I am wondering if anyone knows if it is possible to have my diamond lowered into my ring.. so that my prongs are shorter. They are so long, there are definitely a few mm between the base of my ring and the diamond. I know that it helps the diamond catch more light, but it catches on everything!
They are also sharp.. can they be rounded or softened?
I wanted to see if any expert on here could give me input before I try to find a jeweler...

Actually that is a myth that diamonds need to be set high to "catch more light", because a well cut diamond reflects light out of the top of the stone and can be totally enclosed on the sides and still reflect light well.

But anyway, I think you are wise to want to lower your stone to keep it more safe! I can't tell you if it can be lowered in the existing head, and I think a jeweler here would need to see come close up photos to tell you. But I do know that they can replace the head with a lower one that fits your stone. Just choose a really nice jewelry store that you think does fine quality work to do it.

Likely I can tll you with a photo if your diamond can go lower in the existing setting. Take a side view shot and we'll see.

Most people like sharp claw prongs versus the stubby rounded fat ones. Please share a photo so we can see.

I have sharp claw prongs that are very well done - they don't catch on things.
