Ok, I have lurked on these forums for awhile but now want to tap into the wealth of wisdom on PS regarding August Vintage Cushions from GOG. I have absolutely fallen in love with the look of these beautiful diamonds with their chunky, pastel colors of light! So unique and lovely.

I am searching for a 3-4 carat AVC to set either in a solitaire setting with 4 double claw prongs, or a similar prong setting with French cuts on the band. I currently own a GIA certified 2.03 round brilliant, H VVS2 in a beautiful halo setting I had custom made here in Hong Kong. I feel that my sweet spot is an H, and don't think I would want to go too far below a VVS2. I would be willing to go down in color if a diamond faces up white. Depending on my ability to trade in my current RB, I could have a budget up to $60,000.

My question is, does GOG take trade-ins on diamonds toward the amount of a purchase? Also, what other qualities should I be looking for in an AVC besides my color/cut preferences? I can wait for the right diamond. I just need to start gathering information so I can cull through any possible diamonds available. I honestly don't know where to begin! Thanks in advance for any advice.

How exciting! I just recently had GOG sell my rb on consignment so I could buy an AVR! I do know at times they will buy or trade, but in most cases they will sell your stone on consignment and they take a smaller commission when you use the credit to buy a new diamond from them.

I would encourage you to also consider VS1, because first of all, your options will be too limited with just VVS, and truly, you cannot even see inclusions in a VS1 with a 10x loupe.

The main key is finding one with a shape that pleases you. I just had two sent to me to look at over the weekend and they were gorgeous but a little too small for me. But the problem you will encounter is that he would likely have to have one custom cut for you, so it won't be like having a selection of many from which to choose.

You will obviously have to talk to Jonthan to get the answers you need. I just know I have waited a very long time to even see AVR's come in with the color and clarity I wanted. (and they aren't actually here yet!)

I think if your diamond is in high demand GOG is more likely to accept it.
GIA-graded, Ideal cut, G VS2 might be the center of the quick turnover target.

I can't edit any more but that last link should have been to this stone

I realize it's lower in color than you wanted but I'd reserve judgement on any of these stone until you get a video at least :)

I would also consider an eye-clean SI1. I have an AVC that is J SI1 and I have tried to see the inclusions, but simply cannot. That may help you quite a bit in getting a larger size for less money. For ME, I wouldn't pay extra for clarity that I cannot detect with the naked eye.

I would LOVE to see a 3-4ct AVC in person! Wow!!! Good luck!

Thank you all for your advice - I will definitely get in touch with Jonathan at GOG. Great tips on expanding my search into slightly lower clarity and color. Those AVCs are truly making my heart sing! Will keep you updated with the search. Cheers!

Vintage lover, I am seriously considering that 3.14 H you linked to. I wish I could see these stones in person! Do you think the videos will do as a substitute?

I think someone else who posted here is also looking at that 3 ct. H stone (oh, it is YOU!). All I can tell you is that I sent for two AVC's to look at recently and they are more beautiful in person than they were in pictures. The one thing I did realize was that I wanted them larger!!! So 3 ct ones would be a dream!!!

Oh goodness, I love the faceting of the K she linked to -- but you know your own preferences and when you're spending so much on a stone, it's best to stick with what you know you love. :))

Jon's videos are excellent, truly excellent. I think if I were you, I'd email him and ask him to do a video comparing two or three of these ones that have been suggested here (and ask him to put them on temporary hold before a lurker decided to snatch one up in the meantime). Then you can see directly how they compare to each other, in terms of length/width and little nuances. His videos are really spectacular and allow you to 'see' the diamond very, very well.

I am so excited for you - I love seeing these stones in large sizes.

Thanks so much everyone! It's a bit nerve wracking trying to make decisions on diamonds from so far away, so I really appreciate all your help!

Ps - sorry for the duplicate thread...

Oh I have to say that I also love the K that Vintagelover linked too. That one definitely sings to me, but I also prefer lower colored diamonds. Something to me is more romantic about them.

Anyhow I haven't ever seen a AVC in person, but I have watched a few of the videos. I'm sure the videos are a very true to life representation of what they would look like. I also used to love in Asia (though Japan) so I know how frustrating it is to not be able to see the examples in RL and what a pain shipping can be!
