Better light but still not the "BAM" green I see.

It's so beautiful and I know we are not seeing the real thing!

What I have to do when I am trying to photograph a green stone is take the photo, and then either in the Mac default photo app, or in PicMonkey, make the following adjustments:

  • White balance using the neutral selector
  • Increase saturation overall
  • Increase saturation selectively for green
  • Color-correct the green hue

Steps #2-#4 have to be done based on what my eyes see in real life. Here's an example

Emerald without any photo correction, looks nothing. like real life :(

After corrections, looks a lot closer to real life (real life is still prettier!)

@Polyhex I'm not quite so talented but I'm certainly a believer in how difficult it is to capture their beauty. Out of curiosity, how do you clean yours? Mild soap and lukewarm water is what I've read for the most part.

I use a soak in mild jewelry cleaner and I don't know if this is recommended but I do use steam from my household steam cleaner. I don't understand how a short blast of steam can remove oil embedded under pressure, but I am adventurous and willing to get it re-oiled if I had to someday. I like my jewelry to be super clean.

No heat is what I read. From GIA:

Since the great majority of fashioned natural emeralds contain filled fractures, it’s risky to clean them ultrasonically or with steam. Ultrasonic vibrations can weaken already-fractured stones, and hot steam can cause oil or unhardened resin to sweat out of fractures. Using warm, soapy water coupled with gentle scrubbing is the safest way to clean emeralds.

Thanks icy_jade! I saw that but wasn’t sure if there were other opinions and better ways to clean.

@imyracle I avoid heat or ultrasonic for any gems with fracture inclusions. Better safe than sorry imo.

Breathtaking ring!

Absolutely beautiful!!

Stunning ring!

That is the safer advice, thank you for sharing! There is risk involved with my cleaning standards. :lol-2:

WOWZA! What a knockout - and I just have to say, you have effortlessly elegant hands on which to don it! :kiss2:

I had been eyeing this ring for such a long time! Congratulations!

Any chance for a closeup of that gorgeousness profile to swoon in on, please? =)

I'll try to take pics tomorrow. :)

I tried adjusting the saturation/color to reflect accurately what it really looks like but I didn’t come close. This gives you an idea of the profile though?

Daaaaang
That’s sexy hot!

Thank you

Love love love this emerald. I’ve been staring on it on her feed. So glad it went to a good PS home!!

This is probably the most beautiful emerald ring I've ever seen! Congrats to you

I think this is so beautiful- the emerald itself and the three stone setting! I’d absolutely love to have a similar ring one day, enjoy and post glamour shots any time :)
