Isn't that setting you liked by Adam Foster Jewelry? Is there any reason he can't do one up custom for you? I don't know if you already contacted him or not about it.

Yes, it is Adam Foster! Great eye! I'm sure he could do something custom (easily), but in this case, I figured I should start with the stone to see if what I wanted in a CS was even plausible. And I'm glad I did because 1. I was initially going to go with kunzite, but learned from this thread that it's probably too delicate to be set as an everyday ring, and so I'm now searching sapphires and spinels. 2. I wanted to know what was out there/possible by way of Asscher/emerald-cut stones (not much), so I may have to revisit my expectations for a setting anyway. And 3. Someone offered a GREAT suggestion when it comes to ring shopping and being able to involve my SO, which is that we pick the stone together (that is, I do the legwork and research  ), and he can have full rein of choosing the setting so that I still get my surprise!

So, ultimately, I will probably be contacting Adam about a custom setting in the near future, but I wanted to choose a stone and have a setting made for it first so that he knows what he's working with, rather than choosing a stone for a specific setting.

The color of this Violet Sapphire reminds of Kunzite, though more lilac I think - http://www.langantiques.com/products/item/30-1-7013 - it is a good size and looks to be a decent cut, but the description says nothing as to treatment - it seems well-priced for a 3+ carat sapphire though - might be worth a look-see if you did like the stone color, and if the setting didn't suit, you could sell it on DiamondBistro or LoupeTroop.

This exact piece is TO.DIE.FOR. I cannot stop admiring it!

I do wonder about treatment, though, but I suppose it's always worth contacting someone about.

If you love that color, pale amethyst comes very close as well, and although you have to be careful of synthetic amethyst, if you buy from a reputable dealer, amethyst is stable in color and not treated (as far as I know).

This stone has a window, but the ring is quite lovely.

Since this has been linked, I must ask what folks think of this stone:

I have been visiting it often. It looks so stunning and the price seems great. But that makes me think there's probably something I'm not seeing about it. :)

That stone looks lovely to me and the price for that size & precision cutting is excellent! I'd email the seller and ask lots of questions but would certainly give you plenty of $ for the setting. :wavey:
