That's good to know! I will check out the Natural Sapphire Company. Not a fan of Simply Sapphires . Have you ever heard of RubyKing on ebay? He has a stone I've been eyeing but its just slightly smaller than I'm shooting for. I welcome any insight you might have!

Great, all the purples are found in the "Unique Sapphire" section. And as you may be aware that there are a whole lot of different experiences here with them, so research is key.

I haven't had any experience with RubyKing, unfortunately. Good luck with your search!

Thank you TL, I appreciate your comment. I didn't know about the high crown, that was the one picture that was missing from our conversation with the vendor, so when I saw it, I was so happy. The sparkle is like a million pinpoint stars in violet and purple, with that royal blue backdrop.

Thanks jstarfireb. That's a good question. I'm looking at the spinel now, sitting here on my finger and it's still gorgeous to me. I think I will let it sit for a bit in a gem jar, and maybe, if I find a suitable idea, I could have something made for my son, there would be kind of an emotional logic in that for me.

I'm a bit nervous of the setting process. But sapphire is hard and I think everything will go well. The spinel sat high up in its setting, so it would create an optical illusion of it being bigger than it was, now I think the sapphire can be set a little lower, because it is somewhat bigger. Let's see.

What a good guy! We have a deal in our house, he looks at my gems with pretend interest and I listen to his tech talk with pretend interest and sometimes we get enthusiastic for real, finding common interest.

I love the color play as well and can't wait to wear it. It goes dark and moody in low light, not a glowy one in that respect, but even then, it's that dark dark purple that can just be made out. I went to the jeweler's yesterday and got to drool over huge five carat cuprian tourmalines. So beautiful! But no gem fever, probably because I'm so in love with this sapphire. A good sign.

Beautiful stone! I too have been searching for a more purple/lilac unheated sapphire so I am super envious! As a three stone, it will look incredible. One of my favorite looks of all time! Congrats on your find! Can't wait to see the final reveal!

Me tooo!!! I was actually to the jeweler's today, where they said they can't make the same design with the sapphire, because it has such a fat belly and won't fit. So they will make a regular bezel. I didn't talk to the benchperson, but I told the very knowledgeable sales lady that I wanted the goldsmith to have free hands to make the best ring design he could for this sapphire and to improvise, if inspiration hit him.

Now I'm half scared, half excited to see the end result. I know they have superb artisans working there, so I trust the end result will be fabulous (I hope!), I just don't know exactly what it will be. Mental note: do not go to the jeweler's while teaching a creativity workshop and being in "everything is possible"-mode.

Edited to add: the 25th of September is when I get it.
