Qestion? emerald center stong a tiny bit loose

I washed my emerald ring for the 1st time since april.

I found the emerald fitting is a tiny bit loose. I can fit the edge of a dollar bill under prongs.
And the stone does move fractionlly.
The quesiton is, was it done on purpose? since emerald is 'soft'.
Or should I have the prongs tighen by my jewelers?

How was it washed? If you can wiggle it even just a tiny bit, the prongs need to be tightened.

Don't wait. I still mourn a lovely green tourm that fell out of its setting & disappeared 20 yrs ago, when the prongs were loose. That's such a beautiful ring! Can you find a local jeweler who has enough experience w/ other than diamonds & corundum to do it? Pain to send it away, but better than losing the emerald if you don't have anybody nearby.

PS. washed in warm water with soft tooth brush.

Ditto JF to find a jeweller who knows how to handle emeralds and will not over-tighten the prongs and won't try to use an ultrasonic or steamer to clean it.
