I'm looking at a diamond that's about 1.25 carats, rated VS2 by GIA. The main flaw is a small needle on the face on the stone (maybe 1/10th of the width?). I looked at this thing under a loupe. Before I read the GIA report, I didn't even notice it through the loupe...I had to look at the GIA report to find the flaw. On the contrary, I found the clouds on the other VS2's I was looking at right away through the loupe.
In my months of research, I've seen very few diamonds that have needles in them. I'm a novice - maybe I just haven't looked enough, or maybe I've just had an irregular cross-section of viewing. My question: are all inclusions created equal? I mean, is this better or worse than a same clarity stone with different kinds of inclusions? Does the needle alter the light reflection / fire at all? It didn't to my untrained eye, but I also don't trust my untrained eye fully.
Thanks for the help.
