Hi! I have a question for some of you experts...

On Friday, I am buying the gemstone for my e-ring -- it''s a stunning spinel and it measures 6 x 7.2 mm, so it''s not calibrated. I''ve attached a pic of the stone.

I would love to get a custom setting, but the finances just aren''t there. It will take me several weeks to save up for a stock setting of some kind, probably.

My question is this -- is there any chance that stone will safely fit in a stock setting? I want for my stone to be safe and look gorgeous...

Do any of you have gemstones that aren''t calibrated that are set in stock settings?

Also, if you have ideas for how I should set my stone, please feel free to share!

Can you post your beautiful stone''s measurements in mm.?

Thanks for the response... I have actually decided to go with another stone... It is a round spinel and it is 8.1 mm. I''ll attach a pic!

As much as I love the red spinel (and I do love it), it is a little out of the budget right now, and I like that I can put a round stone in a 6-prong setting... May make it better for everyday wear.

So, now I guess I need setting ideas and info about whether this round stone will fit in a stock setting!

Ow very pretty stone, I love the purple. I love the red too so hard to decide.

Hooray! I am picking up my purple spinel tomorrow and I cannot wait! I will probably take it straight to my jeweler!

I am thinking about doing a simple 6-prong basket type setting in white gold. What do you all think? I am so hoping that I can just go with a stock setting as my budget isn''t very large!

Stacy,
Lucky you to be able to decide between Jeff''s red and purple spinels.

Some designers make rings to order for your stone, so it''s custom sized, and that''s built into the price. For example Vatche, Beverly K etc do this. With an 8 mm stone you should be fine. Love your stone picks!

Both stones are quite lovely but I like the purple one the best. There should be no problem getting a 8mm round setting for your stone. I can''t wait to see it.

Well, I picked up my purple spinel today and it is beautiful. I LOVE it! I took it straight to the jeweler and decided to order the Stuller Solstice setting with the bombe shank, in 14k white gold. I''ve had one of those settings before (w/ a sim in it) and I LOVED it... Hopefully they''ll be great together! I''ll post pics next week when I get the finished product.

Good grief -- the waiting is sooooo hard. My jeweler said that my ring will probably be ready next week on Weds or Thurs. I cannot wait to see it!

Do any of you have spinels in your e-rings or every day rings? I never sleep, shower, clean or work out in my rings, so I don''t think durability will be a problem.

I''ve attached a pic of the setting I chose... Do you all think it will hold my stone safely and securely?
