I've been lurking and researching this forum for quite some time. But now the time has come where I need some one on one expert advice. One of my real good friends works in a jewelry store and as I requested he has found me a AGS certified stone. Unfortunately, it is not an ideal, it's an excellent. To make the situation worse I've only seen the diamond in pictures and a video since he does not live nearby. These are the specs:
Color: I (I really hope I can't see yellow in a white gold setting)
Cut: Excellent
Polish: Excellent
Symmetry: Excellent
Clarity: VS2
Size: 1.10ct
Prize: ~$5600
I went to a jewler today and for the same price they showed me a very similar GIA diamond.
Size: 1.02ct
Color: I
Clarity: VS1-VS2 (Can't remember exactly)
They also had a G AGS0 I compared with. The AGS0 was definitely more fiery, but the GIA held its own very well (There were others that looked like duds next to it). I also couldn't tell much of a color difference between the AGS G and the GIA I. Then again once in a setting that could change.
So am I getting a good deal? Secondly, if the GIA I looked good to me, should I expect similar color performance out of a AGS I?
Thanks again
