I am still in the process of making my wife a birth stone ring (was oversea last month).
:wavey:
The Emerald has been purchased, see it this link.

The design has been picked too.

The Emerald is 8.8mm by 6.3mm.
I have located the 2 pairs of half moon
0.60ctw H VS2/SI1 5.30x3.30mm $1,830
0.54ctw E VS 5.50x3.10mm $1,625

I am leaning toward the cheaper one because the Emerald is 8.8mm, a bit on the long side.
And the ring size is only 6, so they cant be too wide.
3.1x2 is 0.4mm narrower than 3.3x2mm.

BUT I would really appreciate your input.

Thank you
Le

How is the cut on the half moons?

5.3 x 3.3 mm (a bit shorter and squatter)
5.5 x 3.1 mm (a bit taller and skinnier)

Both are awfully close the size. The difference is 0.2 mm in height and 0.2 mm in width, making it about 0.1 mm on each side. I'm not sure if I can see the difference of 0.1 mm. Is the vendor open to photographing both pairs side by side? Is the emerald with the vendor? If so, it'll be best to photograph both sets with the emerald. I think the taller and skinnier set might be a better fit though.

Both are excellent in cut.
The noticeable difference would be the .4 mm in width, when put them together.
That is about 12.5mm vs 13mm. Still quite small.
Maybe I should save that $200.

What is their opinion in terms of which one fits the design (emerald) better? I take it WF must have the stones in hand since they do not cut fancy shapes like half moons.

I will ask them.

I would go with the E VS stones, based on measurements. Plus I just prefer icy white stones. And on top of that, they'll cost you less! Those would definitely be my choice (assuming cut on both pair).

I put payment on the E stone and here is the picture.
