Hi,

Is it ok to dip a piece of jewelry with gemstones (say Morganite and Tourmaline) set in silver in those silver cleaning solution? For those with jewelry set in silver, how do you clean them to remove the oxidisation?

It really isnt good for silver to be dipped into those solutions! I just use a soft chamois ( not a sham-wow) damp with a little cerium oxide powder, or toothpaste, I kid you not.

Absolutely not. The cleaner is very corrosive and most coloured gemstones will suffer.

Cleaning, for example, a silver bracelet set with gemstones is a challenge. Typically I use a cotton bud with a tiny amount of cleaner and meticulously avoid the gemstones!

I like Tiffany silver spray. I also use their polishing cloth for everyday cleaning.

The baking powder and foil method is safe for gemstones, although I make sure to use hot, not boiling, water if there are gemstones.

Thanks everyone, fortunately I asked!

Lady_Disdain, can you tell me more about the baking powder and foil method? How is it done?
