Hello! I've had my Tiffany legacy engagement ring for quite some time now. I love it- however I feel like the setting doesn't highlight the diamond very much- although my diamond is very sparkly and full of fire I notice in some lights it seems dark and I think this is due to all of the metal around the diamond. I'm wondering if it would be crazy to have my legacy diamond set into a different setting? Then maybe down the road I could have a sapphire or something put into my legacy setting. Thoughts? I know I'm the only crazy person who wants to take a Tiffany diamond out of Tiffany's setting!! The type of setting I like it like Harry Winston's micropave cushion halo and with diamonds on the side view. Thoughts would be appreciated!

IIRC They told me that you could have a Legacy set in a Tiffany classic setting or Soleste style setting. You might want to inquire about that.
 
Ohhh thank you I never even thought to ask Tiffany about other settings :)
 
What are the stats on your diamond? Do you have pictures
 
@braga123 the diamond is .89 carats vvs1 and h in color! Here's a pic... I'm wondering how my diamond would look in tacori 2620?

I just think it seems like a poor investment. That setting will quite probably be ruined, as youll have to destroy the bezel to get to the diamond. I just think you're loosing a lot of the value of that ring by breaking it apart.

id sell it. Consign it someplace. Tiffany usually retains a lot of its price of you have the paperwork.

Use that plus the money you were going to use for the reset and start from scratch.

I have thought of that too! I just love this diamond so much that's why I considered resetting... I may just keep it because I do love it, it is a gorgeous ring, sometimes I just wish the diamond was a little more of the main focus!:) thank you so much for the advice!
 
We all wonder about resetting...that is the downside of PS.
On the other hand, your ring would make the perfect right-hand-ring if you ever decided to get a solitaire!
 
Very true!! I love solitaires but wonder if it would seem to plain on my hand after having this one?!? Probably not because the diamond would be the main focus!! The more I research the more confused I am haha;)
 
I don't think it is the setting but probably your diamond. Even if you remove it I'm not sure it won't look dark in some lightening. While Tiffany makes lovely pieces you are paying for the brand name, not exactly best cut etc (which is totally fine!!!!!! Not trying to dig on Tiffanys). I think your best bet is either keep the ring as is or sell completely and start over.

But if you have the solitaire and your current ring you can mix it up depending on your mood. Wear one on your left one on your right.
 
Very true! How fun to have the legacy and a solitaire to switch it up!! If I tell my fiancé this he will think I'm crazy haha:)

If I did decide to sell I wonder what I should ask/what I would be able to sell it for? I wouldn't even know where to start! I know I wouldn't want to sell it for to cheap but I'm not sure what resale value would be!
 
"Fiance"....maybe you should wait a while! Don't jump on the reset bug too soon! It's a lovely ring!
 
I know! I think my fiancé and I are just being so picky! I adore this ring and it is gorgeous!! My fiancé loves it too- obviously he picked it out ;) but we just sometimes notice the darkness- it isn't a yellowing or anything like that almost just like shadowing or something in certain lighting and in some pictures I notice the flash can make it look dark in the center which drives me crazy!! However in some (most) lighting it is brilliant and sparkles so much!

The problem really started because we had a really upsetting experience with my first ering, I was so excited just to be getting engaged and he was so excited to propose that we didn't research rings/diamonds alot and ended up buying a ring from a mall jeweler (which technically I guess Tiffany's could be considered lol!!!) but long story short there were sizing issues, quality issues and we ended up not keeping the ring. So we went with Tiffany for the peace of mind and of course this beautiful ring!! I think the more we have researched the more picky it made us and although we LOVE the cut if this diamond we just wonder if another setting would highlight it more. I think I am being crazy at this point :) sometimes to much research is a bad thing!!!
 
How often do you get it cleaned?
 
Just every few months not often and I haven't done any cleaning at home really. I still baby it- I take it off to sleep, shower and clean!
 
That's not enough! Start by taking advantage of Tiffany's cleaning policy! You will be back in love with it in no time! Even if you baby it, a diamond needs a good cleaning at least weekly!
 
Oh wow ok!! Ay cleaning tips for at home? I live an hour away from Tiffany!

It's probably just the cut, not the setting.

The Legacy is a beautiful ring! I would not dismantle it; you could sell it and then start over with something else. Congrats on your engagement.
 
See how it looks dark in the middle?!? :( pictures make it the worst sometime! It never looks that dark in person.

The cut is ideal/excellent but I think maybe because it is the asscher/cushion Tiffany signature cut (which I LOVE) maybe it just appears darker occasionally... I know asschers can sometimes not be as brilliant. This one does sparkle alot though especially in the car, outside and under certain lighting!

That is TOTALLY normal. And if it looks dark in sunlight or very very bright light - that is normal too. If you search on PS for "diamond looking dark in sunlight" or something you'll find the scientific explanations as to why. It's because our eyes can't resolve the brightness or something. And with the camera flash, you can find an explanation of why that happens too. idk if it's in the same thread or others but I've definitely read it on PS before. I think it's that the brightness of the small flashes from the side diamonds make your camera auto-adjust for that light and the brightness of the large diamond appears darker? OR SOMETHING. adkihfjlsk the point is, the answers are out there, and it's all normal diamond behavior - afaik you're not likely to find one that doesn't do it.

As well, cleaning it at home at least once weekly will keep it sparkly! Some people on PS clean theirs every day even.

Tearing up a Tiffany ring to get the diamond out for reset is a huge no-go IMO. With Tiffany pieces, the value is in the entire ring - not just the stone.

Sounds like your cut of stone is behaving quite normally. I think sometimes we expect too much of a diamond! If it is not something you want for your forever ring, sell it intact and buy another. If you can't part with it, keep it for a RHR and buy another. PS is a great learning place but it can also cause unrealistic expectations. Think long and very carefully about your next step - you don't want to make a big mistake you might later regret.

I thought that Tiffany's had a one time upgrade policy. Take the ring to them, tell them your concerns and see what they could offer. The upgrade would be expensive but if they give you full credit toward a trade, it could be the way to go.

FYI all stones will go dark in some lighting! That's the nature of diamonds not just your stone. Don't get rid of your gorgeous ring because of that! Photographing diamonds is extremely difficult,that's why so many of us wait for the right lighting and spend hours to get some good shots. Please don't rush into a rash decision. The tiffany legacy is the only diamond I would ever want from Tiffany since it's at least their own cut which I find quite beautiful. My own ring is modeled after it. I actually searched for an asscher that had a similar look to the legacy cut.
