Not sure where to post this exactly, but I've come across this seller on Ebay, and I was curious as to whether or not this seller could possibly be legitimate. It seems very far fetched, but part of me is praying its legit, so i can get a cheap expensive stone for my fiancee.

Anyone here savvy/ knowledgeable on this sort of stuff?

this is the seller http://myworld.ebay.com/caratplusdiamonds?_trksid=p2047675.l2559

and I was looking at this ring:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/2-68CT-NATURAL-EGL-CERTIFIED-ROUND-DIAMOND-ENGAGEMENT-RING-18K-WHITE-GOLD-/160946883876?pt=US_Fine_Rings&hash=item25792e8d24

I know ebay provides buyer protection, but is it reliable? I'm scare to get shafted for thousands of dollars here, but the purchase is so tempting!

Hi,

IMO when it seems to be too good to be true, it probably is. Plus the diamond is EGL graded, so it probably will be lower clarity and color than what is stated.

Several things scream out at me.

The first is that the center stone is listed as being exactly 2.00 carats (unusual). Second is that the item is shipping from India. Third is that the diamond is certified with EGL. Fourth is that they only offer one photo of the ring and it is a professional photo, not a real-life one.

I'd definitely pass unless you're willing to deal with the return process of shipping internationally at your own expense.

2 carat diamonds do not sell for $3000 unless they are absolutely the poorest quality, inclusion filled disasters! That wouldn't tempt me for one second. SCAM comes to mind. I'd rather have a nice ideal cut .75 stone for $3000 that that thing for free, I promise.

Ebay is not the place to buy a diamond unless you are very experienced, know the sellers and their reputation, the stone is GIA certified, and there is a liberal return policy, and feedback looks reliable. This guy has some questionable feedback, in my opinion (like having friends bid on lots of low cost items to pad his feedback. I looked up 3 of his "buyers"and interestingly, they all have bid on items from the same sellers, and almost all diamond sellers, all from India, and no other purchases. :naughty: ).

don't be a "sucker"... ;))

If you buy a diamond on ebay, you must be prepared to lose all your money. If you can afford that, then go for it.

If you bought it, please come back with a photo!

Thanks to ebay and paypal customer protection, you generally will not lose all your money unless you are exceedingly stupid with your transactions (this includes not researching the seller, choosing unwise payment methods, etc).

That being said, this would obviously be a stupid transaction to pursue. But you know that, and have already begun your search for a good quality diamond from a reputable vendor. :appl:
