Hi Everyone! I am a frequent lurker and former poster (long time ago, not very often-- and couldn't remember my user name or figure out what email address I possibly used to register with- doh!)

Anyway, after years of admiring all of your stunning rings, it is finally my turn! I have always LOVED halos and Frankie's ring https://www.pricescope.com/communit...ond-in-victor-canera-emilya-halo-ring.181019/ is exactly the look I am going for (and my diamond happens to be a similar size).

1) I am using a family stone that has been passed down to me. I had it appraised for insurance pursposes and was told it is a "I-J," which surprised me because I had guessed it was a bit higher on the color scale. The ring-maker I met with (who comes very highly reccomended by many on this site) said that he uses "F" color melee, but that the difference in color between the melee and my center stone will be fine. He also said he thinks my stone is may actually be more of a J-K, but can't tell for sure until it comes out of the current setting. Will the fairly significant diffence in color between the halo and my center stone be extremely noticable and look bad?? I have seen a few gorgeous halos on this site with "I" or "J" center stones that look fine to me, but those are just photos...

2) I absolutely LOVE the look of pave on the donut and was pretty set on using it, even desptite the fact that a wedding band cannot be worn next to it. Since I don't really like the look of a spacer band (even though they can be barely noticable), I began to consider eventually moving this ring to my right hand after I get a wedding band. But now I am beginning to wonder if the pave on the donut is even actually visible or noticable when the ring is being worn. Can anyone chime in on this? Can you even tell it's there? For what it's worth, my donut will be a bit larger than Frankie's because I like the look of more spread out stems.

3) It seems that most of the rings I see on here have pave on the band extending to 5 and 7 o'clock, sometimes more. Is there any issue or reason not to have it extend to only 4 and 8 o'clock? I know it's a small difference but would like the save the bit of extra money if there isn't a good reason not to.

Eeeek, sorry for being so wordy. I appreciate any help you can give me!

It will be a little noticable between regular melee and a k colored stone, one way to avoid it would be to have them use single cuts
Here is a link to show pics and also they explain it a little

Also consider doing it in rose, yellow,or unplaited wg.
as for the diamonds on the side think of it this way. When you have your w band on itll be closest to your finger. So you wont see that side, and how often do you look at your Hand with the perspective of looking strait at The tips of your finger?

For me its important to wear my e ring and w band on the same hand, you just have to decide if it is for you.

Also people do recommend the 4-8 idea if you wanna save money. Do it up :))

Gosh, I have no idea who you are considering to make it, but I would have Victor make that particular ring! It scares me to think of anyone else making it considering we have already seen comparisons with other pave masters.

I'd ask Victor his thoughts about the melee. He might recommend single cuts and he might be able to get lower color than F. But I am really not opposed to some contrast in the color.

The other thing that comes to mind is would this stone benefit from a recut before setting? That would be the biggest color boost to make it as close to excellent cut as possible.

And I think you'd hardly notice the pave on the doughnut once it is on, and I personally would really want to wear a band with it. So I would leave the pave off the doughnut.

I'd also do the diamonds to 5 and 7 o'clock. When the fingers are spread apart, you want to see diamonds all the way down the sides. I think 4 and 8 is not a good idea.

Thank you both for you replies and opinions, and helpful link.

I am trying to stick with a ring maker in NY as I am much much much more comfortable using someone local that I can meet with in person (although I completely understand that many people have had amazing experiences with Victor long-distance). So, as amazing as Victor's Emilya is, I am confident that I will also love either Leon or Steven's rendition. I have met with one so far, and the other this week. The profile view of the ring that I'm going for, with larger donut, and more spread out stems, is actually modeled after one of Leon's rings so I would feel confident about using him in that respect. He actually did bring up having the diamond recut but my parents (who have given me the stone, which was my grandmother's) were NOT into that idea for fear of the slight teenie tiny chance that the diamond could be destroyed. I don't really want to push the issue with them, as the stone has extreme sentimental value to them and I am grateful and touched that they have even given it to me.

Single cuts could be an option, as I was told that the way my diamond is cut isn't really modern (although it isnt quite antique either) and that both single and full cuts could be an option. I did not know however that the single cuts could be better colorwise! He did tell me though that lower color melee tends to be of poorer quality which is why he doesn't use it.
