Quiet forum?

No need to apologize! I always appreciate your opinion.

There are a few threads that stick out in my memory where some commenters were insulting groups of people. For example a thread about millennials being entitled and lazy (apparently we shouldn’t go to brunch). There was another about a VMA performance that turned into a conversation shaming strippers.

I found myself debating with people here and it wasn’t worth it. I still check in from time to time, but I don’t tend to engage much.

I haven't been on Pricescope very much for the past three years. I may have missed it changing. I am sorry for the negative experiences you had @chemgirl.

Hesitated posting this since I logged on to PS last week for the first time in ages and saw this post. I agree with a lot of the earlier commenters about tolerance, and was turned off PS (hangout in particular) after I asked a question relating to vaccines and what to believe. I am politically neutral and curious but it seems you can’t even query things these days. Replies included something like “I worry for the state of education” and the worst was a disgusting link of people revelling over a list of anti-vaxxers who had died of covid. It was sick and very bizarre. No one called them out either, lol!

I had been back a few times since that occurrence but always felt anxious about posting anything so stopped visiting altogether. Being on the autism spectrum I can definitely be over-sensitive and struggle with social situations on and offline. That experience ruined PS for me so I stayed away, but it seems this thread has developed into a lot of people being more understanding and accepting of each other which is lovely to see!

@Jsand…I understand how you feel, it bothered me more in the past, my skin is a bit thicker now as I’ve gotten older and can mainly focus on the good things I like about PS. I also think people are more willing lately to express how they feel on both sides instead of being more one sided. I also get the whole social struggle, it’s always a working progress.

I too hope you will hang in there with us @Jsand! Sometimes folks speak their peace without realizing it’s far reaching impact. I am sorry you were so adversely affected but thanks for sharing your point of view!

@Jsand, also, and I have had to consider this myself, tensions were running very high when a lot of that was said. So people probably said and did things out of stress, frustration etc that they normally wouldn’t.

Just hypothesizing.

Thank you @AGBF. I miss you here.

I remember the thread @icy_jade, the twat advised that s/he'd left an opening for me to back down or something and I'm like "I'm supposed to care what some rando on the internet thinks of me?"

PS I'm sad that we can't see your bling pics but I totally understand!
I had a similar experience - and share the same sentiments that you expressed upthread.

I rmb seeing a thread (it seems to have since been deleted) about one of the PS darling vendors being accused of not honoring their policy and sending an item that looked pretty different from what was advertised. I only ended up there bcuz I was interested in something from them and was doing my due diligence first.

Holy shit, there were a lot of near-rabid fans accusing the buyer of being cheap, of being difficult, etc, for literally asking the vendor to honor their policy. I jumped in to point out that although Asia has weaker consumer protection that the US, this would 100% be a breach of contract even here (caveating that I wasn't a lawyer).

I happen to say that my country didn't even have lemon laws (which are a type of key consumer protection law) till 2012.

One of the vendor's fans who had anointed his/herself as the consumer law expert jumped in and screamed "WHY ARE YOU BRINGING IN LEMONS", having no clue what lemon law even is.

Immediately realised that this person wasn't even worth engaging.

They seem to be very happy with what they got despite us thinking they way overpaid.

they can probably imagine what will happen if they indicate otherwise....

don't forget that they live in the same country as the pitchfork wielders after all...

Mell9yellow's response was bizarre. Nazi vs cooking.

I'm assuming that you are based in the West and are not at all familiar with what happened in Asia at the same time the Nazis were committing atrocities.

Japan committed atrocities throughout Asia. Particularly in South Korea, China and Southeast Asia.

At least one historian committed suicide after researching what they did in just one city. Frankly after hearing what they did, so would I if I were thrown back into a time machine to live through that period.

Japan has never apologised (at least not to my knowledge), and they continue to omit what they did in their history books. Japan never made reparations / made tiny token sums to most of the countries, and the US needed an ally against communism in China so...
