I am in very close to purchasing a radiant cut diamond. I want to make sure I am getting a good price. Any info on the best place to purchase would be of great help to me. Looking at a 2.81 G VVS2 for roughly 22,000 and a 3.0 f vs1 for 26,000. Both cuts are very good and I don''t know much more about the cuts then that. Any thoughts? Thanks!

Just reading your post quickly, those prices seem very low for those specs you listed. Where are these diamonds from?

And I would want to know a lot more about these diamonds before I purchased them...

Thats good to hear the prices are good. One is from a dealer in Ecuador and the other is a local jewelry store. They are both GIA rated.

Can you get all the stats on these diamonds before you make a decision?? Yes, the prices are low, but that is not necessarily good, it is a little fishy to me, to be completely honest...

those prices aren''t good in the terms of ''you got a great deal'' good. they are suspiciously low and you should be cautious.
you can do a search for radiants using the ''pricescope your diamond'' tool above.

Since there are GIA reports available... and assuming they do match the stones...

... any chance you could post the details on the reports? (table, depth, girdle, polish, symmetry, measurements - that sort of thing).

The quotes are about 1/3 less than I would expect. Something that might conceivably happen at a desperate private sale, but from a jewelery shop I am quite amazed.

My guess is that these are not well-cut radiants at that price. There are quite a few badly cut radiants out there, and it is sometimes hard to find a good one. Here''s a link to what is probably a well-cut radiant (although it would have to be seen to be sure):

You can see it''s quite a bit higher priced than the ones you are being offered. Some people on here say Blue Nile''s prices are higher, but in this case they are right in line with what you would expect for a radiant of this size.

Thanks for the info. This is a very reputable jewelry store in my area that I am talking about. I will post the GIA specs as soon as I am able to get them, I am at my office and they are home.

Here are the stats on the 3 carat:

measurement 9.20 x 7.42 x 5.22 mm
depth 70.4
table 78%
VSI
G

That is a very large table and the depth seems too large also; I would probably pass on this stone.

What measurement and table size would I be looking for on this stone?

It''s best if the depth and table are both around 60-65% with the table slightly smaller than the depth, but these stones are hard to find. I would probably go up to high sixties on the table keeping the depth in the low to mid sixties.

OK. I don'' know how it looks and while that near 80% table is pretty big, the diamond doesn''t have to look miserable because of it.

I am still amazed at the prices. Would have expected allot lower grades for the money!

Not sure I would consider paying 10k more (at least!) for knowing the stones were making some arbitrary bracket for ''numbers''. Especially if they look good. For the money, these guys could be recut if desired and still be a decent deal.

Sure there are GIA reports there not ''GIA style'' grades assigned by the seller or something?

All in all, I would not dare say a radiant cut looks bad based on those numbers. Definitely not.
I can''t guess how bright or charming this diamond is, but the couple of numbers do tell it is a fairly large stone for the weight and comes in a nice rectangular shape.

It would take quite a train smash cut to deter me from the offer. If it was real'' bad in person, I would still call in an appraiser or cutter''s opinion if shaving a bit of it would improve brilliance or cure whatever problems there might be.

Because for the 20k and GIA graded G/VS1, you might rather get 2 cts rather than 3 elsewhere. And it wouldn''t be quite as large unless an extremely shallow cut diamond, as far as I can tell.
