Rant Alert: I can't find another pink!

Hi as some of you know, I bought a pink FCD from Leibish some time back. As much as I love it, I keep wondering if I could get a nicer larger round brilliant pink stone.

So I've been diligently checking in for a few months. And elsewhere too.

So far... nothing :blackeye:

I know that odds are stacked against me. I know I brought this on myself. I'm not having buyer's remorse, just wondering if I can get a nicer stone for the ring. Yes, its still an ongoing secret project.

I have another 3 months or so to search... fingers crossed.

Worst part is, I'm not sure how much more I can budget. Sigh. And this is probably the biggest kicker. Where are all the Fancy Near Intense or Intense Pink Argyle round brilliants with SI1 eye clean and min VG/VG grades above 0.6ct?

Ok, just wanted to get it off my chest, thanks for listening. :(sad

You have very particular requirements.

These are not white diamonds.
Pinks are rare, especially Fancy Intense or near Intense.
Rounds are rare in FCDs since it doesn't amp up the color as much as some other cuts.
VG VG is rare for FCDs.
Eye clean SI1s are rare and in high demand.
Over 0.6 ct is rare.

Add all these together and the mathematical odds of this ship coming in are not too good.
Be sure to check new inventory daily since I've seen some nice ones sell within hours.
(I've see listings that were not there when I went to bed are up and sold first thing in the morning.) ;(

If I were you I'd even find out from Leibish what hour they usually post them.
I'm on California time and new diamonds are almost always posted between midnight and 7 AM PST.

I know some FCD vendors do not post all of their inventory so you may want to tell them what you are looking for.

Would you mind posting your pink again? :naughty:

I've been waiting for my gf to have a girl's day out (FCDs are useless photographed under yellow light) so I can get some proper photos with the new family member (the 0.56ct chameleon)

It starts out looking like a Fancy almost fancy Intense Yellow, then shifts to greenish yellowish somethingy. So COOL!

The pink can come out to play again. They are almost of a size, the chameleon faces up visually a touch bigger. So yeah, I wanted to get some new pics.

I KNOW I'm being picky. I don't want to tell Leibish what I want because I'm not sure I can necessarily fund it. When it comes to these specs, just any one factor could make the increase 10K from what I own, to anywhere around +40K from what I own.

I can't do 40K more. That's financial madness. So I was content to just sit around and wait for something to pop up.

But it has been 5 months and nothing in those specs has shown! Doesn't help that pink rough is so expensive that cutting round brilliants that reduces colour intensity of the soft pink shades rarely gets done. Ugh. So many step cuts and not a round to be had!

Wish I had a story like that guy who bought the vivid pink on ebay a short while ago...

FCDs are certainly another whole animal in the coloured gemstone world. I agree with Kenny that you have a very particular set of requirements that are going to be difficult to fill as everything points increasingly towards being rarer, not to mention expensive. I've been watching Leibish for a while too but nothing has come up that's within my specs and budget. Guess just about everyone else is also playing the wait and watch "game" too.

I would ask vendors directly. Be completely upfront about everything, including budget. Most vendors have a pretty good idea of what their inventory will include a couple months in advance. This is a rare stone and a big ticket purchase, I'm sure a vendor would be more than happy to help you, if they could.

Are you willing to compromise any of your criteria? Leibish does have an Intense Purplish Pink, RB, SI1, VG/VG listed, but it is .44ct

I feel for you BUT why go for a round brilliant? That's going to make the search much much much harder. Remember, colour is king in FCD world and actually rounds are great for white diamonds but some of the most gorgeous FCDs are fancy shapes (just think of Kenny's collection).

Nope. But I shed a tear when it got reserved. Was looking at that daily, but it was just too far above my budget to make any sense at all.

@LD: Definitely if it was for my collection, or for anything other than an e ring, I wouldn't care for round more than other shapes. Very nearly picked up a Zimmi emerald shaped vivid yellow, but decided to keep the budget in case a pink came by. I love your FCD collection by the way!

@Anonymous: Yes they would be very helpful, but I'm at a stage where I really love the stone, but I'm just wondering whether I can get a 0.7 in a beautiful shade of pink similar to the one I have (maybe a 6P, or 6PP) with lovely stats. But after looking for 8 months, still nothing.

@Chrono: Yup, I can only hope. At least in reality I'm lucky I even found the one I'm holding. I'm not sure it is the best 'value' pink, but its a pretty stone at least. I hope what you're looking for pops up as well soon! (Prices have been climbing)

Thanks for all the inputs! Back to the watching game.

not to burst your bubble here, but usually when you have specific stats you're looking for, it might take you a life time to come across one... if you come across one... be snappy with your fingers to reserve, just in case you do see one... :)

I know it! That's why i bought the one that I have, my little 0.53 pink round (i still think it costs a lot for a plain fancy pink, without the argyle provenance, but then again, there hasn't been something to compare against).

I think it will definitely do the job - I was just being hopeful that something in the 0.7 range with very similar stats would come up.
