Hello everyone! I am new to PS and I would love some much needed help! :wavey:

Today I was on James Allen to see the pretty diamonds twirl and I came across one that made me
It is this one:

http://www.jamesallen.com/#!/loose-diamonds/round-cut/1.02-carat-F-color-I1-clarity-Excellent-cut-sku-188190

I spoke to Marie from James Allen about this diamond because I just couldn't believe it! She told me this was a rare occurance for this to happen! Is she right about this? I already have it reserved but I would like some confirmation from experienced PSers! I am a first time buyer and maybe don't know what I am looking at. Is this too good to be true? Would you buy this?! Any comments are greatly appreciated!

Thank you very much!

Edit: I forgot to mention it is $4260!

would I buy it? Yes. See it with your own eyes to decide.

Why is it an I1? Where are the inclusions? I would snap it up if it looked like that IRL. :appl:

It's a very pretty diamond. I love how white it looks. But make sure you ask the gemologist if either of those feathers breaks the surface. I can't tell for sure because the GIA report is small on my computer (even zooming in) but one feather appears on the report as green, and the other as red. I can't remember the meaning of green vs. red on the GIA color code at the moment, but I think the difference in color may be significant in terms of type of inclusion.

There's a huge feather between 8 & 9 on the stone and a smaller one on the opposite side...My only concern with this stone is that the inclusions are all on the girdle so it's possible they could be detrimental to the stone's integrity...I'd have whoever at JA preferably the gemologist tell you totally honestly if those inclusions are ok and if they won't cause any damage to the stone.

I personally am not a fan of I1 diamonds for a ring, period, but I would not buy one that had feathers as the primary inclusion. A feather is a crack in the stone and it must be significant to get an I1 grade. The second inclusion is a cavity, which means there is a little hole in the diamond somewhere. As nice as the videos are, this one is not letting you see those inclusions that are there.

IMO you really need to see it in person to decide whether it is eye clean enough for you. From the video I can see pretty sizable feathers at 4 and 10 o'clock. But I'm more concerned about what looks like a surfacing breaking cavity at 2-3 o'clock that goes right out to the girdle.

Here are the fissure and the feather:

I would worry a bit about durability risk with these inclusions, unless JA can assure you they won't increase with normal everyday wear.

I am perfectly comfortable with an I1 stone, you arnt wearing the GIA cert on your finger, right? i just believe that an I rating like that can mean the inclusion provides durability risks, so just ask the gemologist :wavey:

Green does indeed indicate that the inclusion reaches the surface. While many people would automatically decline such an inclusion, others find that such inclusions which are often not visible to the eye to be totally acceptable.

This means that you must see the stone after discussion with the gemologist on staff and decide for yourself whether you would rather have a more perfect stone in either a much more expensive purchase or a smaller stone to keep the purchase at its current price. Either decision is okay, it is just YOUR decision.

Many I1 diamonds are very beautiful and great bargains. Many also are not!

This would concern me as well. As the others have already advised, have the gemologist take a look at it. If you decide to purchase it I would have it examined by an independent appraiser for their opinion as well.

maybe uncommon, but I wouldn't call an eye-clean I1 rare.

Yup, I would buy that, get insurance, and be happy that I found such a great deal!!!
ANY diamond can chip if you hit it right. That feather went through the cutting & polishing and didn't break...don't let it scare you away.
Just get insurance...that's what it's for :wink2:

I would probably only put this in a pendant... I don't think I'd trust myself to wear this in a ring- insurance or not! :)

Agreed, Id probably just bezel that baby!

Thank you everyone for all the replies!

I asked them to have a gemologist inspect the stone for durability and I should be getting a reply later in the week. Without all of your help it could have been a disaster because I am always bumping into things! (I was thinking of setting it into a ring.) I'm not so sure about this diamond anymore, but I'll see what their gemologist says!

Even the sett would be skeptical of the stone depending on where all the inclusions are. I wouldn't buy i1 for a finger, maybe for studs or a necklace. I would stick with si2+ or maybe even consider d color si1 Egl.

I agree with this. But I am pretty careful with my rings so I'm usually not too worried about damaging them. But again, that's why we have insurance!

+2. You could put it in a six prong if you don't like bezel. But it is a really good deal, and I'd probably get it too...
