Hi,
I''m a jeweler who''s trying to do an appraisal for a customer that I’m going to sell a old European cut diamond w/ the original platinum mounting w/ 6 side diamonds around 20 pts and the ring weight 5.5 grams. I know OEC are usually 20-30% cheaper, but this one is the best that I''ve seen (in term of color, cut, and clarity). After I bought it, I thought about re-cutting it, but I changed my mine when I found out how much weigh I would loose (~20%) and I heard there is a market for this kind of diamonds, but I didn''t have time to search for it, figured I might catch someone who stopped by and like it as it is!

Specs.
Weight: 1.9 ct
Measurements: 8.16x8.13x4.71

Color: H color, the worst it might be is I, it looks better than a 1.22 GIA certified I that I have, but I have a GIA 0.76 H that''s a bit whiter.

Clarity: VVS+, I couldn''t find any flaw w/ 10x or 20x loupe
Table: ~ 45.5% (around 3.7mm)
Culet: Small or maybe medium
Girdle: Thin to Med
Flor: None
Crown angles: just a bit higher than the modern cut.
Polish and Sym: seemed to be VG

Can anyone tell me how much lower than the modern cut (%) I should appraise this diamond for?
Thank you

I bet you will get some replies if you post this over on Rocky Talky!

Absolutely, post your question on RockyTalky, I''m looking forward to hearing what they have to say. You may have to wait a little longer than normal since some experts will be catching up with their ''in-trays'' after Vegas.

you can also contact Dave Atlas. He specializes in old stones and probably could give you an idea of it''s value.

here is a link to his website

Thanks for the info,
I got my answer from Richard Sherwood.
I guess it''s a modern European cut!
Price about 20% below modern cut when trading with wholesaler, but who knows when trading w/ consumer. The larger spread makes it more desireble to some, 8.16x8.13 is larger than many modern 2 cts.
Take care,
Twan
