hello I recently purchased a Tiffany e-ring for my fiance. The ring needs to be re-sized, a little to big. They send it out to be done and it takes 2 weeks. Could this be done at a local reputable jeweler in a shorter time period? or should I just wait for Tiffany to do it no matter what? Thanks for the help. I live in Long Island if that helps and somebody knows someone.

I don't recommend that you get it done elsewhere. It's just my opinion, but why pay for a beautiful Tiffany ring and then turn around and pay for someone else's service that you may not be happy with, or worst case they damage the setting. When we had our E-ring sized they told us it would take two weeks, but we were delighted when they called after one week and said it was done! Oh, and BTW congratulations!

Interesting Q...

About half of the ring's cost was paid for the name of the maker: I would let them do the job. Just my opinion, of course.

Also, could it be that a different Tiffany store could handle this more quickly?

Tiffany sends all rings for service back to NY so it really depends on how bussy they are in NY. 2 weeks sounds about right. The delivery is handled via FedEx overnight. I would get it done at Tiffany. Infact, if they know someone else has worked on the ring they will void the warranty.

thanks for the help. She doesn't want the ring to leave her sight. She wants to use a local jeweler. the ring wasn't purchased directly through Tiffany so they do not owe me anything, Still stuck on this ..need more help. What are the pros and cons. And what do they actuall warranty??

Tiffany warantees the ring for life against defects in workmanship, etc... stadard stuff. However, the warranty only stands if you actually bought the ring from tiffany. It does not transfer if you bought it second-hand. That said, I would still let tiffany do the sizing. Two weeks, at max, is not a long time to wait given the years and years she'll likely be wearing it. Having it sized by another local vendor tarnishes the "tiffany-ness" of it for lack of a better term. You paid a HUGE markup for the craftsmanship and style of tiffany. Sizing does often involve re-working a small portion of the band so you'd be introducing another type of craftsmanship (although not necessarily better or worse) into the ring. IMO, the decision is yours, but the ring really ceases to be "tiffany" when you let someone else work on it.

Many will say "Does your mercedes cease to be a mercedes if you let a local mechanic change the oil?", but that is far too logical an analysis and full of holes... Try to find the oil fill line on your ring. Rings aren't consumables and people pay a large premium for the romance and social connotation of them.

Just my .02
