I inherited my mother in laws diamond engagement ring. It's probably about a carat but cut is very poorly cut. Has anyone had a stone recut by BGD? Do you know how much it costs?

I had a 1 ct poorly cut diamond from my family and had it recut by BG within the last couple of years. It ended up .80, but yours could end up larger depending on it's current cut. It was well worth it and now allows me to use a stone I would not have otherwise wanted. At that time, it cost $350 a carat, so it was $350 for mine. I definitely recommend doing it! I have threads on it if you want to see them.

I just had a diamond recut by them and I got it back about a week ago. I can't believe it's the same stone! It was also a poorly cut 1ct stone and ended up at .80 and lost .1mm of diameter. I definitely recommend sending to Brian for an evaluation to see if it's a candidate for a recut! You won't believe the transformation! It was $350 a carat for me as well. I had my diamond set into BGD's Barbara martini pendant and I love it!

Diamondseeker and I had identical recutting experiences. :wink2:

Thanks! I contacted them. I hope it can be recut!

I'm curious DS and Orbaya- What was the turnaround time for the process of sending something in and getting it back?

If you do go with a re-cut, could you take before and after photos of the re-cut project so we can take a peek as well?

:D

Yes I will take pics. I'm not sure if they will be able to though its also an included stone so we will see. I haven't heard back from them yet.

From the time I sent in my stone until the cut was complete, it took about 2.5 months I think. Then it took them two weeks to get my pendant made. So the whole process was about 3 months from start to finish.

Yes, it is an amazing transformation! I absolutely love the diamond now!

Mine took several weeks, too. I am sure the diamonds are shipped out of the country to their cutting facility, and I imagine they come back with a parcel of stones that BG has ordered. It's not like they send it to the cutter one day, he recuts it, and they send it back. I imagine that would add a lot of cost.

If anyone is interested in the details of a recut, here is my thread with before and after images.

Then here is the pendant made with the diamond:

I have never had a diamond recut, but I have seen on PS the before and afters, and I'm confident you will be amazed with the transformation!!

How wonderful you can have your MIL's diamond recut and it can continue to be a presence in your life - very sentimental!
