A couple of my latest scores...First up, a little 0.58 ct Winza ruby from Gene. I fell in love with the piece of rough when Gene posted pics of his scores from Tucson last year. I then kind of nagged him for a long time to cut it for me, but then hesitated briefly once he actually cut it, because during that time I became a bit of a size ho and this little guy is only 4.7 mm. However, I really love the colour. It will likely be put into an everyday type pendant. It looks hot pink at times, pure red at others, and sometimes leans purplish red. Here it is in various lighting.

What a beauty! The size won't really matter in the end because the colour just screams across the room.

With some Mahenges...

Very pretty, I think it's a nice size as well.

Next up, Afghan blue-green tourmaline from Barry's last drop. 8.2 mm. This thing is also a stunner in all lighting. It's just resting in this setting.

LOVE both....I wanted that Tourmaline too...but I think that was the drop where I was stuck in a 2+ hour drive home in a snowstorm! LOL

Congrats!!

Much jealousy inspired in me by that win-win-winza!

Girlfriend, you've come a long way! Those are beeeeyoootiful! Tell on the group shot with mahenges, which stone is it of the two rounds - the slightly smaller one closer to your Mahenge ring? They are all gorgeous. I bet you can stare into Gene's faceting for hours... :naughty:

I love both of your new stones NKOTB!!!! :appl:  That ruby is TDF!!!! It will look beautiful in a pendant.

remember: color not size is king with color stones. your ruby is indeed a winner!

Those are lovely stones. That ruby just pops!

You already know I adore them!

So, settings?!

I know the thread title says red and green but you can go ahead and post the pink spinel here too. After all, pink is a light toned red. :naughty:

THanks Chrono, Greg, Chris, Vl, Minou, Stargurl, MZ, Jane, and Freke!

Minou, it's the smaller round. The bigger round is a Mahenge also cut by Gene. :)

Freke, I'm not 100% sure for the ruby, other than a fairly simple pendant (but not super basic either). I'm going to try the tourmaline out in Big Blue's former home and see how it looks. I might want to bling it up a bit more, but the engraving with the green might also look really nice, in a "nature" kind of way, if that makes sense.

Alright, Chrono, here's my JW spinel ring, previously owned by drillsgtgem.

Alright, while I'm at it, I might as well post these little trillions I bought from Dana a while back. The current plan for these is to become drop earrings, to hang from my diamond studs.

Beautiful! Those drops sound lovely. And of course the ruby is awesome.

The JW split shank deserves its own thread and photographs. Need more pics!

I agree that ruby doesn't have to be big with color like that it stands out. Really nice spinels, and I just love the tourmaline too.

Gorgeous! That Barry tourmaline was stunning on the website and even more so on your hand.

I'm on it Chrono. Took some pics today. :)

Thanks Rosebloom, innerkitten and jstar!

Loving that ruby--killer color!

Lovely little ruby - I agree with Chrono that it will still be an attention grabber because it is so saturate. The trillions are gorgeous as well - they don't look to be of the same proportions, but the could just be the way they are resting between your fingers.

Oh, and your Mahenge ring is absolutely glorious! :)

Thanks MrsM and Kim!

The trillions don't seem to be a perfect match, but are certainly close enough for earrings. ;)

Nice scores! I'm glad you are pleased with the ruby. It looks to be a fireball!

Ah, I'm in gemstone heaven. I love that ruby, I think you'll be really happy with it. The color is great. The tourmaline is beautiful and that spinel ring makes me so jealous. Perfect!

Beautiful stones!

The photo of the tourmaline that you've entitled "bluegreenuglylights" is absolutely stunning (and the most natural of all those pictures). If your stone looks like that picture it's a gorgeous beauty. You can really see the blue and green. Yummy!

As for the Winza, awwwwww, love its personality.

Great new stones!

Thanks Colorluvr, mariedtiger, and charmed one!

LD, it really does! It actually looks like it does in all of the photos, depending on the lighting (brighter one is in diffused sunlight). The "mid-tone" pic is in incandescent, and it literally took my breath away when I first saw it in that room. The "ugly lights" one is in my kitchen, where all stones look their worst in my experience, but these two both fared quite well in there.

Absolutely gorgeous stones, I love the ruby and the ring!

You've got one gorgeous collection in the works here! I've gotten a bit hung up on gemstone sizes lately as well...but that ruby is gorgeous!
