It’s great ruby, for sure, but I would like a 2.5/75 LI which will cost 50k+

I can’t spend that kind of money on a 1ct ruby, my wife would not be pleased :D

You know, I sort of try to avoid living up to any particular bar with regard to ring design. There have been so many jaw-dropping, creative pieces shared here (@LilAlex's dragonfly spinel ring comes to mind). They've enriched my life, that's how much I enjoying seeing them! But I'm afraid they just don't come to me when designing. I guess my aesthetic is rather simple... dare I say unimaginative. The gem tends to do the talking, and everything else is secondary. My point is, if and when you decide to set her, don't psych yourself out. She may be ornate or classic... either way, you have fabulous taste and I trust she'll be spectacular. In the interim, enjoy!!

To me this is the perfect red, true red although I feel it leans cool not warm.
I'd say it's close to venetian red #c80815 (off the top of my head without comparing one next to another)

OMG, i KNOW this feeling! I am a CPA and i am doing taxes... I have to be honest, i shipped my stuff to David Klass just so i would STOP staring at it all and get work done!! I wanted to just hold them and play with them but I had to get them out of here to stop thinking about them and staring at them and playing with ideas!! I figured I'd enjoy them more set and I figured I could always reset it if i truly changed my mind.

I also understand the obsession, I just bought an unheated ruby and getting that color red RIGHT is SO TOUGH!! I mean, I feel like it was easier for me because I actually love/want/desire a more burgundy/purpley ruby - THANKFULLY because they're cheaper and easier to find!

STOPLIGHT RED is what you found! Truly next to impossible and I understand why you're selling everything now! LOL!

Wow! You have an impressive eye for color! That swatch is spot-on!

Does it lean cool or warm? By itself, I would say cool...but next to very slightly pinkish rubies, it looks warm. I think the "Venetian Red" may be exactly right.

Wasn't it?! I thought the same thing. lol My dad is a car collector, and Venetian red is known to be similar to Rosso Corsa, Ferrari's very famous racing red. So I think you did well. lol

Couldn’t afford it, but couldn’t pass it up… Will likely have to sell more stuff and pay myself back… But…

TOTALLY. WORTH. IT.

1.76ct, deep, tall crown, loupe clean, hyper fluorescent and the reddest red spinel I’ve seen in 25 years.

Now all the rubies I see cower in shame. My search is over.

I would say it's in the middle, perfect red.


To be honest, what you see with the naked eye might be very different to the photo, cameras are bad with reds, it's the worst colour for them. Never had a camera or phone that correctly reproduced a red. I like to take quick snaps of random flowers I see and was so disappointed when I compared the photos to reality. They were always washed out, pinked or orangey.

comparison next to venetian red, seems cool to me but as I said above, photos are far from reality, your eye will catch the true colour better
