Best of luck in your spinel search, Diamondlil. (And keep us updated!!) I, also, have always wanted a ruby! A lot of us here on Pricescope have found really beautiful spinels. I am sure you have seen Matata's ring. A lot of people seem to be LOOKING for red spinels, too.

Lovely! It looks perfect- proportions and colors!

And Resolve...between a sensitive stomached cat and clumsy dropsy me, the guy at the grocery store must think I am a Resolve-a-holic! Just found another spray that works so well I am switching permanently...I will go home and ge tthe name and post it for you....it even works on the ''tuna'' catfood that stains bright pink even when wiped up in less than 30 seconds.

Spray? You use spray? I use the granules and get down on my knees with the brush and SCRUB! Since I moved in here I have been a charwoman. Well...I *was*. Now we have an electric fence keeping the living room out of bounds to the horrible hound. He isn''t wearing a collar and can''t get a shock, but he got one once as part of the training :-(. So he now doesn''t go into the living room.

Hah! I would use the granules, but have such a lousy vacuum cleaner that it wouldn''t suck up the debris. I am waiting for my deposit to come back from my old rented place so that I can buy a Dyson Animal! Such excitement at the thought!

Wish I had an intimidation fence for my 2 cats, but no such luck...I have been such a good protector they have NO FEAR- except of the water spray bottle, but that means constant vigilance to keep them offa the armoire, so resigned to scratches. Armoire= replaceable, cats= not so much!

How did we get to talking about cleaning so quickly? Are there only six degrees of separation between any glamorous topic and cleaning? Vacuum cleaner, scrub brushes, granules, pets that soil. Yup. This is a diamond forum, all right! I recognize my life in every thread.

yep- so back to diamonds...and other gems.

I just started to explore this colored gemstone forum. I had no, none, zilch knowlege of anything beyond sapphire, emerald, ruby, other popular stones. Your spinel is gorgeous, and like one of the other posters since my birhtstone is ruby, perhaps I will go for a spinel instead! Are all spinels red? Are other colors called different names...hmmm, I have much reading to do on this site.

May I ask where you got your tanzanite, AGBF? Also would you mind sharing the specs on it? I love the colour.

I was admiring your beautiful stones and ring AGBF, and they are beautiful

, and saw the discussion regarding pet stains. We have found a great cleaner for pet stains and odors called Nature's Miracle Stain and Odor Remover. I'd used Resolve for years and even though it worked great on the stain, our dog would find her way back to the SPOT!!! Nature's Miracle would take care of both the stain and odor. We found the Nature's Miracle at PETsMART. Here is a picture of the product.

Can't wait to see the red spinel once it's set!!!

Libster,

Thank you! If I hadn''t made progress on setting my spinel I wouldn''t have seen your posting on "Nature''s Miracle"! We set up an electric fence to keep our Lab out of the room *he* constantly revisited. I think it was unnecessary, though. He just wasn''t used to carpeting. Once he learned that it wasn''t OK to go on it, he stopped. (The lowest level of our house is carpeted and *not* protected by an electric fence, but he still doen''t go there any longer!) I think I jumped the gun by getting the electric fence.

At any rate, thank you for the tip! One never knows when he will acquire another large dog!

Sorry, bagpuss, I didn''t see this until today (nearly two weeks after it was posted). I got the tanzanite from my local jeweler, Grunberger''s, in Stamford, Connecticut. The whole saga is in a Pricescope thread somewhere. I was greatly helped by Pricescopers (especially Ana) in finding nice tanzanite. I looked at two stones from Pala Gems (the peple who supplied my red spinel), but was disappointed in that tanzanite. Mona at Grunberger''s found me some really beautiful tanzanite.

Thank you, Patty. I took the spinel and the two round diamonds (all of which I bought from DBOF) in to be made into a ring today. As I have stated above, I always have my custom jewelry work done at Grunberger Jewelers in Stamford, Connecticut. I pretty much know everyone who works there. Mona always helps me to design what I want. She really knows my taste, which helps enormously. This time Rupert, who is a master craftsman, will be executing the design. Jim, the owner, looks at my gems and decides on what to charge me! There are also other people there...all great: Gerard, Charlie (who is a woman), Victor, and a lovely woman whose name I cannot remember who grew up in the jewelry business in Antwerp. She knew who cut diamonds, something which has interested me for several years.

The design I will be having made is not original. It is a variation on another custom mounting they had in the store. Since their mounting had stones in it already (25 pointers) and my stones are 34 pointers I couldn''t use what was already made. So I decided to have the prongs tapered.

The shank will be 18K yellow gold and the head will be platinum. The prongs on the spinel will be double, but tapered (unlike the non-tapered double prongs on the store mounting). Other than that the setting will be simple and classic: just the oval spinel flanked by two round diamond accent stones.
