Hi all! Thought I could find some good suggestions from you in easing the discomfort of a yellow jacket sting.

FI and I were coming home last night, and as I was unlocking the front door, a yellow jacket flew right at my eye lid, and began to sting and bite!!!! Thank goodness I closed my eye in time, but BOY was it PAINFUL!

I put ice on and off every 10 mins last night for about 3 hours before I went to bed, a little this morning, and now tonight. I still have a lot of redness, swelling, and pain.

I also just discovered a swollen lymph node on my neck.

I haven''t had any allergic reactions, so I''m trying to remedy this at home. I''ve taken ibuprofen, Claritin (for the antihistamine) and have used ice. I''ve heard meat tenderizer works well, but I don''t have any.

Do you have any other suggestions or insight into how long this will last??? Thanks so much!

Another diamond upgrade may sooth the pain.

Seriously, I thought baking soda mixed with water and applied with a cloth was a good first aid for bee stings.

I swear I got an email about banana peels being remedies for about everything that ails ya, and I think stings was one of them.

And while googling banana peel remedies, I also see cutting an onion in half and putting that on it is supposed to help. Who''da thunk it?-

Thanks! I may try the baking soda!!

Darn! I thought this thread was about the financial sting from yellow gold diamond jackets or maybe some yellow diamond earring jackets and I would get some eye candy.

Oh well, hope you feel better, sounds like it hurts.

I''ve heard the same thing. Make it into a paste, set it on there and let it dry.

Please see a doctor if you haven''t already. Yellow jackets are filthy insects - always crawling around on garbage, poop, etc. You could could get an infection. A doctor should look at it to see if it''s infected, and it might be a good idea to take an antibiotic or even a steroid for a little while.

Oh do I know how you feel! I got stung on my pointer finger of my right hand twice by the same damned yellow jack. My finger became absolutely enormous from the swelling. I soaked my hand in ice water, carried around an ice pack, took Motrin and Benadryl, rubbed Benadryl cream on it and it still hurt. My girlfriend helped me to fall asleep that night by suggesting that I put a partially dissolved aspirin on the sites of the stings and secure the aspirin with bandaids or tape. The analgesic in the aspirin is directly absorbed through the skin. Old fashioned cheap non-enterically coated aspirin works the best since they dissolve easily.

I hope you feel better soon!

Not sure if anyone else has said this but we use chewing tobacco (gross I know). The tobacco not only eases the pain, but draws out the poisons as well!!!

Not crazy at all SDL. That''s what "After Bite" is. Ammonia! I keep it in my kitchen drawer. It just doesn''t take down swelling or relieve pain. It''s helpful if you put it on right after the bite or sting to stop the itch.

I don''t know how the baking soda paste remedy works after the fact, but I can personally vouch that if you get it on quick after the sting it works like magic.

Works good for ant bites as well.

Be very careful about getting another bite..The first sting I had, a couple of years ago was normal..Two weeks ago I was stung on the top lip,,my mouth swelled as well as later, my eyes, face and down my neck.I looked like Homer Simpson for a week. This was not a normal reaction,,so I got a couple of epi-pens from my doctor..He said the next sting could mean real trouble...
I was told later that raw onion is supposed to work ..I also heard to tape a penny on the bite..
Be careful what you put on it..being on the eye lid...By now, nothing will make any difference...
Sorry

Thanks for the tips everyone!

I ended up waking up this morning with the swelling being 3 times as bad!! My eye was almost closed.

So, I went to the doctor at 10am. He prescribed me a Prednisone kit to take for 6 days, an antibiotic in case there''s an infection, and he told me to continue to take Benadryl.

I started taking the meds at noon...slept for awhile...and here it is almost 9pm, and the swelling hasn''t gone down too much. I haven''t put anything else on it other than ice. I''m just hoping it will go down soon.

Should I be worried that this is more than an allergic reaction?
