Replicating a setting. How to find the vendor to do it?

My daughter is wearing my mother's ring which is about 60 years old. The setting has been worked on several times over the years, and seems to be at the point where it now needs to be replaced. Unless we can find a miracle-worker to redo the existing setting, we would like to find someone who can replicate it as closely as possible using the existing stones. They are not large, but of course have a great deal of sentimental value.

What is the best way to find someone to do this project? While we would love to find someone local (Michigan), finding the best person for the job is most important.

I think I would first contact a vendor that specializes in antique settings such as Jewels by Erica Grace or SingleStone. Unfortunately neither are local to you but both do exceptional work and it may allow you to save the existing setting without having to have one remade.

The setting looks simple enough whereby I don't think an antique specialist bench is necessary. There is no filigree, piece work or carving; only an illusion basket and simple prong work on the shank. Either a good local bench or any of the usual PS recommended bench can do this.

Thanks for the input! Both local jewelers I checked with did not think they could do the job. I will definately check with both vendors. My daughters heart is breaking about replacing the setting, but right now she is also afraid she will lose a stone.

Having someone local would be great!! Thanks so much :)

Contact Wink Jones of http://www.winkjones.com/.. He is one of the diamond vendors but he and his bench people have done a lot of repair work and might be able to repair it, reshank it, or rebuild the prongs.

I'm not sure where you are in Michigan but Miner's Den in Royal Oak is great. I've also been happy with Tappers (at Somerset Mall in Troy) and Ahee in Grosse Pointe.
