Repurpose ideas?

Resetting the center will not make the ring smaller so you will likely not wear the ruby setting again. Have you tried pricing the setting separately?
I see a gorgeous pendant!!!!

I spoke with Sako and I think I will put a moonstone or similar iridescent stone in the center if it doesn't sell by the end of the year. I am going to go ahead and reset the diamond at that time too. I normally do not wear necklaces, but it might work as a necklace!

Really?! Those look like the "before" picture and your ring is the glorious "after."

Gotta ask -- did someone say something about your beautiful ruby-halo ring? Inlaw? Co-worker? I don't get the rationale. And to take such a financial hit in the process. is it so it's a better fit with your wedding band? As long as there is a ring on the correct finger, that's all the symbolism society needs! Spouse has cycled various rings and combinations off and on that finger for decades.

If there were not so much value tied up in the center stone -- which is not the main draw for me (i.e., we have no big diamond rings) -- I'd buy it in a minute

Not being mean (I hope) -- just want to know. Maybe you have outlined this on another thread. And, as always, it's none of my actual business so feel free to ignore

I am lucky enough to have quite a few rings that I've had made or acquired, so I actually don't have one engagement ring! My actual real engagement ring is a gimmel band that's plain!

Nobody said anything about it, but it's more so that I have quite a few rings that are larger or have halos and over time I have just shifted away from wearing them over the last 3 years or so. I actually met up with a friend tonight and we looked at jewelry and I feel like some of them need to be put back into rotation. On this one, I do love the diamond and feel like if I pulled it out and put it into a simple setting that I would actually wear it.

I know the inspiration settings are quite simple, but I have quite a few rings that have a lot of detail and are bigger, but I find that I reach for the simple ones on a daily basis. The rings I actually wear daily are a 1.5ish pear in a faux bezel and three five stones, that vary between .70 to 2.6 cttw, plus bands. Sometimes I wear one of two sapphire rings. The rest kind of sit, but I don't want to get rid of them... I have culled down a ton in the last few years and the ones I have, I do like even if I don't rotate a lot.

The diamond is a beautiful diamond and I know that with the right bench the bezel could be rebuilt and saved, so the ruby setting would be left intact. I'd have Sako do it.

You had really good thoughts and the input is helpful!

Because this is the forum that it is, pictures of what I find myself actually wearing with regularity! They are very different.

I was thinking on this and if I absolutely had to repurpose this ring I would turn it into the following (keeping the components as close to the original as possible so I could always remember this beautiful ring):

1. Bezel set two tone solitaire
2. Ruby curved band to wear with the solitare
3. Ruby/Diamond cluster component earrings

Here's a horrible attempt at a mock up but it I think the picture better conveys what I'm talking about:

Still would be such a loss to see this beautiful piece go so really hope it sells but I totally get wanting your jewelry to be more usable/enjoyed.

Those mock-ups were really helpful!

I think at this point I'm leaning towards keeping the ruby setting intact, and putting the diamond in a simple setting that I think I would wear, if the entire piece does not sell by the end of the year. I do hate the idea of breaking it apart. I think moonstone or something iridescent, maybe even a pendant would be a good repurposing and probably the most economic way to go about this.

Glad your planning on continuing the life of this beautiful setting! All the best for the sale or reset! If it does get reset, really looking forward to seeing the fresh piece!

So I cannot tell – would you put the moonstone in to wear or to sell?

I love seeing all these! I love the Oec and that lovely detailed setting.

What did you decide to do with this beauty @elizat

Since @nala revived this thread, @elizat can you share details on this 5 stone band? The proportions look absolutely perfect on you!
