Hello :)

Some of you may have seen my post on my mother-daughter project. I am looking at 5mm stones and I'm wondering if it's going to be too small for a colored stone for a ring. Most of the rings I've seen in this forum have stones much larger than 5mm.

If you have a ring with a 5mm (or similar) stone size, please post a photo!

Thanks :)
Brea

What shape are you looking for because that would help you to compare better I think?

5mm can be made to look bigger by a clever setting. One of the ways that is popular is to have a halo of diamonds. That increases finger coverage but isn't to everybody's taste.

I'm actually not sure. I was thinking either round or square but now I'm learning that I love pears too :)

So anything really!

I think this is 4.96mm on size 4.25, sorry it's not colored.

On a size 6 finger:

Sapphire purple (cushion) is 5.5 x 5.5mm

Sapphire blue (round) is 5.7mm

Sapphire padparadscha (cushion) is 4.9 x 4.8mm

I'm still looking for a pear to show you!

This is a 7x5mm aquamarine pear. You can sometimes get pears that are 6x4 but I haven't often seen a 5x3 pear.

Hope that helps.

I have plenty of rings that are 5mm and under! 5-6mm is probably my sweet spot for size considering the cost. My finger size is 6.75.

4mm benitoite:

4.5ish mm tsavorite:

4.5ish mm lavender spinel and red garnet, 4mm alexandrite, and 2 of MTG's larger rings (pad and tsav) on one finger:

5mm tanzanite (loose):

5mm moonstone, 4mm benitoite, 3mm demantoid stackers:

4mm OEC diamond in fishtail prong illusion setting:

I have more but just don't have handshots of everything. Hope these help!

Here is my 5mm padparadscha

Approximately 4.5mm on a size 6 finger.

Correction on my 2nd-last photo...the benitoite isn't there but an almost 5mm blue tourmaline is. These days I wear all 4 together (moonstone, benitoite, tourmaline, demantoid).

The tourmaline at the bottom of this shot is 5.1 x 4 mm. I don't think it's too small for a ring.

 Thank you all for posting the eyecandy! These are lovely :)

I love the idea of a mother and daughter ring :appl:
My 5.25mm sapphire from Dan Stair, in the process of being set as my e-ring :D
I wear a size 4.5, and think it's the right size for me.
I hope this helps!
