Requesting Help to ID a Simon G Ring - Discontinued?

Hello all. I need help finding/identifying a particular Simon G ring. The only place I have seen it in person is a local B&M store. However, they refused to disclose to me the style/model of that ring. I even tried copying numbers along the inner band, but have had no luck. I looked at the Simon G lineup on their website and while there are rings that are similar, the actual ring is no where to be found.

The characteristics of the ring itself can be described as roughly .9-1.0 tcw, white gold. Square Halo, with four corner prongs to hold the middle diamond, pave with kite shaped diamonds on each side. On the front/back of the ring, diamonds are encrusted down to the halfway point. Below the halo on the front/back view, there is a V-shaped point with diamonds there too.

I''m beginning to wonder if the ring I saw was an older/discontinued style and the B&M has had a hard time selling it (probably because the diamond they paired with it is ugly). I asked how much the ring sold separately and they told me ~$4300. I believe that to be an insane markup because I''ve only see Simon G platinum rings go for that much online. At most, I would expect the ring to be ~$3500 considering it was white gold with ~1.0 tcw.

Of the following collection on the website, these are the ones that are somewhat similar... Unfortunately, Simon G doesn''t give you other viewing angles and my attempts to contact them using their contact page have resulted in no responses. We''ve looked at other rings but my girlfriend is adamant about the one I''ve described above...

Any help is appreciated. I have considered having it replicated through a custom ring and that might be my last resort if I cannot find it.

Style: MR1620
Problems: Kite shape on the sides are encrusted with round diamonds. The original ring had a single diamond in a kite shape. Also, it appears that there is no point with diamonds on the front/back portion of the halo.

Style: MR1667
Problems: If there were a round "version" of the ring I''m looking for, this would likely resemble it. The differences are that the halo is round in this picture. It should be square. In addition, there are no diamonds going along the front/back sides of the band. Finally, that tiny circle shape under the base of the halo on the front/back sides should come down to a V with diamonds.

Style: NR110
Problems: A little similar to the ring except this one houses a round diamond in a square halo. Also, no diamonds coming down the front/back sides of the diamond and there is no V below the halo. Finally, there are empty spaces around where the kite-shape on the sides.

Hi Faluzure, love the cute dog in your avatar! Simon G is my FAVORITE designer and I have to say you've made some beautiful selections there already although I fully understand your(and her) qualms. My replacement setting is LP2061(without the rose gold). If the one you are looking for is not on the Simon G website then chances are it's either discontinued or the jeweler you went to was showing you a replica(although I would hope not).

We did extensive research prior to the buying decision and ended up purchasing it from Firenze Jewels. At the time, I recall them having a handful in stock that were discontinued styles. Take a look at this page here to see if you can find the mount you were looking for by any chance Simon G Engagement Rings. Regarding your questions to Simon G, I don't believe they respond to inquiries like this to the general public. I would suggest contacting Firenze to find the answer and/or possibly have it replicated through them if you both decide. It's been my experience that this is THE retailer to go to for Simon G jewelry designs at the lowest markup - they're located in the NY Diamond District but you can customize/purchase it online. I can't find those similar styles above on their site but just ask them as I had to special order the specific setting I wanted as well.
Best of luck!

Firenze Jewels has a large inventory- I second that- but it doesn''t hurt to just call someone who is an authorized retailer and say you like that certain style number but want it in a square- I ordered a Natalie K ring- and had a similar issue- the person I ordered with just called Natalie K and it was no big deal- and Firenze quoted me almost 1K more than I ended up paying for he setting. HTH. Also- when I did this the cost was not more for the change to the Jewelers- but many told me that the cost was higher, except the jeweler that I ordered from. My jeweler doesn''t carry Simon G but this was my second choice: http://www.jewelrybymorgan.com/ they gave me a very fair price and were very nice to deal with- I would definitely give them a try. HTH

CravingDiamonds: Thank you very much for your input. I''m also thinking what you were thinking... that the style is discontinued. I don''t think it was a replica because it was in a Simon G display and the inner band said Simon G as well. I just wanted to get someone else''s opinion before I ruled that particular ring out. This is unfortunate but I suppose I can find another similar ring by another designer or I can always get it custom made.

I will give Firenze a try. I''m actually going to NYC this summer, so maybe I can discuss with them and then meet in person later on. Thank you so much.

suzannea: Thank you very much for your input as well. I''m trying to get my girlfriend to look at other settings by other designers... she''s just reluctant to do so. I did look at a few Natalie K rings and they looked really nice as well.

You are welcome- but definitely ask if Simon G will customize for you. May I ask why you won''t purchase the one at the store you went to? I am assuming it''s the price. Look on their website for an authorized Simon G near you- or try our suggestions- and see if one of the shops will call them and ask about customizing what you want- good luck!

I didn''t want to purchase from the store that sold it locally because I think they priced it too high. The ring I described earlier was quoted to be $4300 with the diamond. The diamond that was included was a 2.2 carat D/E I1 Radiant Cut diamond. The inclusions were very large and noticeable. The total price for everything was $9999. I was told if I bought them separately without their package price, then the total would be $13,000. However, if I were to request a different diamond, they said that they would come up with a different package price after I selected the diamond. They wouldn''t tell me how much each was separately.

I find it hard to believe that a 2.2 carat D/E I1 Radiant diamond with a GIA certificate to be 9600$. Now, I don''t know if that''s a reasonable price but I really disliked the diamond due to the inclusions. Looking at it from the side, the "cloudy" inclusion almost looked like it was cracking near the prong.

Anyway, I''m really not sure if $4300 is a good price on a Simon G ring that''s discontinued. I''d rather look at other dealers and give them my money.

What do you think?

$4,300 for a USED Simon G Ring (used because Simon G is not making the ring from scratch) is a rip off. Most Simon G settings are priced between $1,000 and $4,400 and that''s for a ring that Simon G has made to fit your stone and her finger. I just think that the price is more than a little high for a display ring..

Also, did the ring fit her perfectly? If she has small fingers like many of the ladies here you may have trouble sizing the ring without effecting the structural integrity of the ring. I posted some other stuff on your SMTR thread.. Good luck!

It just sounds like a really crappy retailer- and I wouldn''t trust them based on the things you are saying- who doesn''t tell you the design number?? Really- try Jewelery by Morgan- they are very honest and are authored Simon G retailers- hopefully they can help you find it. I actually think the price for it is pretty fair for the setting alone- if it is in platinum- but what do I know- it''s just my opinion.

PavePrincess & suzannea: Those were my thoughts too. The ring was a display ring, so no telling how long it''s been there (considering Simon G doesn''t show it on their website) and how many people tried it on. To answer your question, the ring was too big for her finger. They said they would resize it for her for free, but I still thought $4300 for a display ring that didn''t fit was somewhat high. That $4300 was considering their package price. They''d probably charge me a couple hundred bucks more if I wanted to buy it separately. I asked them how they resize it and they said that they cut a slice out of the ring and weld it back. So that structural integrity argument is also very valid... I didn''t think about it that way.

Oh by the way, the ring wasn''t platinum either... it was white gold. So that makes it even more to scoff out since you said that most of the Simon G settings were between $1,000 - $4,400 on average. I''d be paying $4300 on a used, discontinued Simon G ring that is priced accordingly as a new, platinum Simon G setting.

Thanks for making me question the whole thing again. I agree that it''s weird that they don''t tell me the design. They gave me their internal stock number just in case I wanted to come back and buy it at a later date... but I highly doubt that''s going to happen.

suzannea: I''ll try Jewelry by Morgan as well as the other recommendations you made. I just haven''t gotten to it yet.

Will do. Since I''m purchasing the diamond from Good Old Gold, I contacted them first. They quoted me $3,900 to replicate the Simon G ring. There''s another ring my girlfriend liked and they quoted me $4,800 for it. Of course, they said they are rough estimates. I have yet to contact Adiamor and other stores to find out their pricing.

Okay - So, I just commented on your other post, but I didn''t realize the price was for a replica of the Simon G, I thought you were paying for the name brand. That being said, I wouldn''t say it''s totally unfair since it is a custom piece and it takes a lot more work for them to make it custom than it would for Simon G to reproduce it.

Just a little update. As I mentioned in the past, GOG mentioned that they can replicate the ring for $3900 (rough estimate). They said they essentially provide the ringmaker with the picture and then they create it from that. I didn''t go into too much detail with them because there are slight modifications I''d like to make to the ring. They said if the modifications were major, then I should go with a custom designer. I haven''t made a decision yet because I''m still fishing for my diamond (which is in the other thread).

Then I called Adiamor because they were the ones who have the original ring that I wanted to modify. The person who wrote me back was Sam and he said to call him. So I asked him about the ring and he said all their jewelry is custom made inhouse unless it''s made by a specific designer. He said that they can make the ring to my specifications for roughly $2800-$3000. I mentioned that I am interested in doing that, but I''m shopping for a diamond elsewhere. Then he seemed offended and asked why I would do that. I told him that I''m just being a smart shopper and I want a specific kind of diamond. He then proceeded to tell me that they have access to hundreds of diamonds and can get me whatever I want. He asked me what kind of diamond I wanted but still sounded defensive, so I told him I would call him back later.

For those of you that don''t know, I don''t want to buy my diamond from them because my girlfriend wants a specific kind of diamond. I''m working with Jonathan from GOG (who is awesome by the way) and I really would like to buy my diamond from him.

I really would like Adiamor make the ring because I''ll save about $1000 that I can put into the diamond, but I''m not sure if that $1000 is worth the trouble since Sam wasn''t too happy I wasn''t going to buy my diamond from him. In any event, I tried calling him back & writing an e-mail to him explaining that diamond I wanted but I haven''t heard from him since then. It''s been about 3 weeks. So maybe they couldn''t find my diamond or are just mad.

What to do...
