Hello,

This is my first post on here. I was recommended this site by quite a few other people with an interest in jewellery with the advice that there are a lot of knowledgeable people on here. I wonder if you can help.

I have an 8mm trillion/trilliant cut natural Morganite stone which I absolutely love. It's set in brushed silver. The setting around the stone is bezel however the back of the ring is uncovered meaning you can see the bottom point of the stone (i.e. it's not fully encased in the silver).

Would it be possible to have a jeweller (and I mean an actual goldsmith) extract the stone from the sterling silver and reset it in gold? Or is the stone now forever set in the silver? I love the stone, I do not at all like the silver setting.

Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated!

It shouldn't be a problem at all. Often stones are set and unset and the metal choice doesn't make a huge difference.

The only thing to be aware of is whether the bezel is hiding any damage to the stone underneath. Occasionally bezels are used to disguise "issues". However, you won't know that until you take it apart. Make sure you go to a good jeweller though!

Hi, many thanks indeed for your reply - very helpful. Oh right and thanks for the advice about the bezel setting; I hadn't thought of it that way before! I will remember to try and keep this in mind when buying bezel set stuff in the future.

Many thanks again for taking the time to read and reply it's much appreciated.

Do you like the style of the setting? If you do just have it gold plated.

Thanks for your suggestion - if I liked the setting then I definitely would consider this. Truth is, the setting is too bulky and a bit masculine for me; in short, I really don't like anything about it apart from the stone. It was a gift and there's no return policy so resetting seems to be the only option. Thanks for replying!

With care and skill, a jeweller might be able to remove the stone without damage to the bezel of the setting.
