Hi everyone... I posted here when I first got my engagement ring and then again when I got my wedding band and was SO happy at first... since then my engagement ring has grown to bother me more and more. Unfortunately I barely wear it now. My other threads show just how high and bulky the ring is.

To cut to the chase-I want to reset into a simple and dainty solitaire.

I LOVE the look of a plain shank solitaire with a big diamond wedding band. Below is a photo of the setting I currently have—where I’m holding the water bottle. See how crazy high that thing is?!

Then is a pic of the setting I have (almost) chosen along with my current weddingband.

I’m really doubting myself based on making a poor choice the first time around... I’m looking for feedback on whether this looks classic, like I hope, or just silly. Thanks everyone!

I think it looks very ‘classic’ (in a GREAT way) and you can never go wrong with clean, classic soli!

If it bothers you, do it. I recently changed my setting due to poor craftsmanship when I upgraded my diamond. I just had my engagement and wedding band re-done and absolutely love my rings again. Although, I opted for pave on my engagement ring again (personally my favorite), I also love a simple solitaire with a diamond wedding band.
Here is an example of a plain solitaire ER with diamond bands. My current wedding set is my avatar.

I think a lot of us don't know what kind of setting we want to wear everyday... until we wear one everyday. I think you should absolutely change it if it means you will start wearing it again :)

Beautiful choice! Very easy on the eye.

Its very pretty. Just look at it (with a head the size you need) and your wedding band where I highlighted. You need to make sure there is no contact when you wiggle your fingers between the wedding band diamonds/prongs and the prongs of the ering setting. The view you provided does not show this. We'd need to see 90 degrees from this.

It you have contact, you need to either add a spacer band or look for a setting that does not have that contact.

I just recently had my rings redone as well. My original set was bought 20 years and was yellow gold, a solitaire with channel set diamonds on the engagement ring and then a ring guard that it slipped into with channel set diamonds on the top and bottom matching the channel set diamonds on the engagement ring. I loved it when I got it, but over time it just seemed clunky and dated looking. In the interim I got an eternity band set in white gold and I wore that a lot for a while, but lost a couple stones so that was sitting in my nightstand with my other rings and I wound up wearing a plain gold band I had. So about a year ago I took everything in to a jeweler recommended to me. I had him reset the eternity band and add the missing stones and kept my engagement diamond but traded in the gold setting and all the channel set diamonds towards a new setting that matched the eternity band. Very happy with the results and I actually wear them now when I go out, etc. And I also purchased from an online jeweler at a really great price a 1.5 ctw F/VS2 5 stone band that is set really low in a u prong setting (looks just like your wedding ring setting) that I wear as an everyday ring, never gets in the way and has plenty of bling!
