My FI recently purchased my ering and initially I thought it was perfect for me, a 2+ ct cushion solitaire with platinum micropave band. He got a great deal from an estate jeweler but the ring did not come with an independent appraisal, which concerned me. The center stone is gorgeous in terms of cut, clarity, size but was listed as I color. Initially I thought the center stone looked white face up, especially in bright/fluorescent lighting but as I observed it in different environments I realized it took on a more beige, off-white color. This color is more noticeable with the micropave diamonds, which are in the G/H range and look icy white compared to the cushion. When we had it resized the jeweler we worked with said it was more of a J stone and I wonder if it might be lower although it is a large ct wt. I thought I might be over analyzing the stone and that the subtle warm color was only apparent to the trained eye but when my FSIL saw the ring in the sunlight and said it was "yellow" I knew it wasn''t me. The stone is really gorgeous despite its color and I wouldn''t want another stone, I think it would crush my FI since he is so proud of the ring. But I was wondering if resetting the ring in another band or replacing the micropave diamonds with diamonds in the J/K range would help offset the contrast. Or possibly replacing the diamonds with another type of gemstone? Any thoughts? I don''t have a image to share since the ring always shows white in photos.
