Ring box?

I''d worry bout a silver box tarnishing over time.

96,

Does your girlfriend have a nice jewelry box? If she doesn't, one idea might be to wrap one up with the ring inside, so she doesn't know she's getting a ring, just a jewelry box. And when she opens it, the ring could be inside, the first piece of jewelry to sit in her nice new box. Plus, she could put all of her other jewelry in it, so it'd be functional.

Here's a large silver box from Pottery Barn ($85):

Engravable Jewelry Box

Another antique-style choice from PB (I registered for the medium size):

Emmett Dresser Jewelry Box

I don't know, it's just an idea.

p.s. That ring is AMAZING. Fabulous choice!

Thanks for the compliments guys (DKS I know you're kidding). Let me know if you want some pics from other angles.

It's a 3.13ct AGS000. It has 184 pave diamonds on the mounting.

That pouch idea is pretty good.

lol I knew it was BIG, but not that big! Wow. She is gonna flip.

The jewelry box idea is pretty good. I have an idea already though, but its not 100%. I am going to take her to Atlantic City, NJ for the day. We''ll gamble a bit, then I''ll ask her to take a walk outside. I''ll convince her to walk on the beach (hopefully the weather holds up), and I''m going to hire a plane to fly a banner with my proposal (without my name on it), and ask her if she can read it when it flies by (she knows my eyesight sucks). I DOUBT she''ll think it''s for her, and she''ll probably say "Hmm, thats weird" or something to that effect, then I''ll drop on one knee and propose right on the beach. We can go for dinner after that where I''m sure she''ll be spending most of her time on the phone calling friends. I may even have a a few close friends meet us down there after that and then take her home to her parents that night. I''m sure they will be up waiting for us to come home.

What do you guys think?

Holy crap!!! That ring is just huge! I knew it looked, well, um, LARGE, but that is just too much! I

I think that''s a great idea, so creative! And I like the idea of having friends join you later for celebrations.

Wow, there are no words to adequately describe that ring! What is the color, etc.? It is gorgeous!

I''d go to Tiffany and either buy a little sterling box or a little Limoge box. That ring deserves the best box.

I think my heart stopped! It is SOOOO beautiful and prefect. Heck I''d be fine with a paper bag if it meant I got that ring!!!! She won''t even NOTICE the box!

Aaahhh...what a great proposal idea. It is just so creative and most memorable. She is just going to be swept away! (and incase that does happen GRAB THE RING first!!) oh I crack myself up!!

May I ask what size the ring is? (don''t worry, I won''t be there to snatch it...I''ll send someone else.) I just want to get an idea of the size it will be on HER finger.

It is so romantic all the details you have put into play. Atlantic City is dealing her one lucky night! I am warning you ...don''t come back her and tell us she won half a mil or something. I just couldn''t take it!

Please don''t end the thread. I am gonna have to come back like a junkie ...

DKS

ps...the ring box needs to have a beach theme...maybe a clamshell shape? Or a starfish...or sandollar as in Atlantic City. Oh boardwalk wood. You''re right I am getting goofy..It is my ring I tell you!! No...it needs to be an airplane...with a banner!

Stop it!! the pictures are killing me.

Somebody needs to get a valium for DKS....quick.

It''s size 7.25. Beach theme ring box? Not bad, not bad. Know a Limoges box that would fit the bill?

Here are some. Link

Here is a scallop shell. There is also a clamshell, and lots of others.

Too funny, Flygirl! We gave him some of the same links!

I really like this one. Thanks a lot diamondseeker.

So whats involved to convert this to a ring box?

That is a classy and beautiful box. I''d probably see if Tiffany can insert something in there to hold ring (like take the inside out of another ring box), or I am sure they could give you a small velvet pouch to put inside. I would love to have a keepsake like this to commemorate the occasion.

I like it too, and e-mailed Tiffany about this. They were not willing to try to make something like this. The official response was "Unfortunately, an insert is not available for the Limoges porcelain Heart Box. " That wasn''t a lot of help.

No biggie...
32.gif
the dreaded arts and crafts time.

Make a template tracing the outside of the heart base. The outside measurement will be a tad larger....that is what you want-larger will fit snug. Get some foam...regular green upholstery foam will do. Cut it to the shape of the heart template and then to the height of the bottom of the base...dry fit it, make sure the foam tucks under the inside of the bottom lip. And the lid closes.

Remove the heart shaped foam...and cut a slice across from 9 o''clock to 3'' o''clock/from the top through to the bottom. Not all the way through but about 3/4 of the way down. Take a piece of velvet you have bought at the fabric store...where you got the foam...fold the fabric and place the fold between the two pieces of foam-the 9 to 3 slit you made with your exacto knife. One side of the fold will overlap the other. This will form the slit where the ring shank...(that lovely to die for ring shank that holds that magnificent stone...that is in MY setting...) will sit, erect and firm and secure. When it is opened all you will see is the stone...and about the top 1/3 of the shank.

Again dry fit all, once you are satisfied, take spray adhesive glue and spray foam and fabric backing...carefully meld the two. All that is visible when you open the heart is a fold of velvet that makes a uniform slit from 9 to 3 and flat stretched rich velvet.

I would glue the velvet to the foam...not the box. It will be a tight fit and it shoud stay in place on it''s own...if not...a simple piece of carpet tape on the bottom should make it stay. Spray Adhesive glue should be used over hot glue on the velvet part. No clumps or burns to the velvet.

Arts and crafts..this is no biggie. Really... you want the box...you can easily make it work. Honest. Find another box at home and try this technique, before you buy the box. You spend $10 at walmart...and about half an hour later...you will have the confidence to do this to the Limoges treasure box.
You will go from

to this

in no time!!

DKS

Or just a pouch inside to hold the ring...would work too! As others have suggested.

Thanks DKS.
