When my husband got my e-ring, it was a size 6 1/2. It was a little big, but didn''t bother me much. Then, I lost more weight, and I was afraid the ring would fall off and get lost. So, I went to the jeweler and asked for a 6 1/4. He said that I should get a 6 instead. I got it resized to a 6, and it fit perfectly - during the winter. Now that it is summer, I can barely get the ring off. I have to put lotion on my finger to get it off, but it''s still very difficult, and it gets my ring nasty. Also, my knuckle has gotten all scrapped up taking the ring on and off.

I like to take the ring on and off every night to clean it, but now I''m forced to leave it on all the time. I even have to clean it while it''s on me.

I just got married and had my wedding band sautered (spelling???) to the e-ring, and I"m sure that might have made things much worse.

Should I just suffer all summer or have it resized to the original size??

I would definitely have it sized back up. I think Mara had the same problem when going from one to two rings and went up 1/4 of a size in both rings. You can PM her to be sure.

Wow, It is technically not even summer yet . Is is really hot where you are allready? I am wondering why your finger size has changed. You know several things could be causing it. Weight gain, water retention, hormone fluctations. poor circulation ect ect. I would attempt to find the cause and remedy that before resizing the ring again. How bout talking to your doctor.

Windy,

I have the exact same problem. Plus my knuckles are bigger than my fingers. It''s not medical, I''m in perfect health. My fingers just swell some in the heat. When I got my new setting this winter it was sized to a 4.5 and was big. You could hear my rings rattle when I moved my hand and they were constantly spinning. I was considering going down another quarter size but decided to wait to see how the fit would be in the summer. Good thing I did! By the time June arrived I was in the same boat as you.........couldn''t get my ring off without lotion or soap and my knuckle had been rubbed raw from taking the ring off every night. I, too, ended up just leaving it on and cleaning it on my finger. I finally decided last week to take it back in and see what my jeweler suggested. We ended up sizing it up to a 5 and putting in sizing beads on the sides. So far it is working ok. Can get it on and off without killing my knuckle. I don''t know how it will be next winter, though. I''ve got my fingers crossed that this will work.

I would have to agree with Catmom. It seems like a seasonal thing. I know I also have the same problem of swelling hands in the Summer vrs. the Winter

I definetly haven''t gained weight since I had it resized. My knuckle is bigger than my finger, too. I can''t stand when I try to take it off, and it won''t come off. It freaks me out!!

I wouldn''t mind leaving it on all the time except my e-ring and wedding band have channel set diamonds on then, and I like to clean under the ring - which is almost impossible with it on.

I''ll ask my jeweler for advice. I have to take in my pearl bracelet anyway. I got so excited when I saw Garth Brooks the other day that I must have broke it!!

Yes... it is very hot here in Arkansas. It just got really hot last week. I don''t know if this is normal here b/c I''m from Georgia. It''s probably really hot in Georgia, too.

When does summer start? I just always considered June, July, and August the summer time. We always had to start school in September, so I just thought summer was over then!

When your jeweler suggested the size 6 instead of the 6.25, I'm sure he didn't take into account the summer swelling. Now that you've got your wedding band saudered to the engagement ring, the width of the two rings together makes it that much worse. It is definately NOT fun to feel your blood pulsing in your finger.

I have a wicked time with swelling. My fingers range from a 6.75 in the coldest part of the winter to a 8.5 in the hottest part of summer. I can't wear the same ring all year round. My suggestion would be to go to a jewelry store while the weather is hot, and your fingers are swollen. Measure the mm of the two rings together, and then try on ring sizers in the same mm size. You already know what you wear in the winter, now you need to know what you wear in the summer. You can have the ring sized so that it fits in the summer, and have the little sizing balls installed in the back so that during the winter the ring won't spin...and the elevated area will allow for the swelling.

Thanks! I had never heard of sizing balls. I''ve seen ring guard before. I should have just left my ring alone. Will they have to undo my rings from each other to resize them?

My wedding ring is actually a 6 1/4 and my e-ring is a 6.

What are sizing balls??

I did have this problem, I posted about it somewhere..I suffered for months and had torn knuckles a bunch and finally took it in and had both rings sized up about 1/4 size.

It was winter when I did this and I felt like they were too loose at first, but I quickly got used to them, my knuckles are also bigger than my fingers, and even when they were loose they were not easily able to slip over my finger. Also with two rings I find it seems safer than just having one...

So I have been ecstatic re the sizing and didn''t need to use sizing beads (those would drive me nuts), and I still have space for any summer swelling, so far I have not had one problem and actually like it when they loosen up at night etc and clink together...it reminds me they are there.

I have eternity rings too which is why it took me so long to get them sized up...I was worried it couldn''t be done or would compromise the settings. No worries, they did it in 5minutes and I got them back right away.

Can''t believe I went for almost a year with them all tight..after we got married having both rings on started the problem, when I just had the one ring, I did not have a problem with summer or winter or it being tight at all. It was the addition of the wedding ring that did me in.

The sizing balls are little round balls that they install inside the back of your ring, so that the ring doesn''t slip...usually two balls are used. It will make the ring fit better, and still allow a little space for swelling.

Thanks everybody. I''m going to get it resized back to the original size that it was before I got it resized smaller. Boy, do I feel silly about that!! I told the jeweler that I just wanted a quarter size smaller in the first place instead of a half size, but he insisted that I had to go down at least a half size to be able to tell a difference.

Shame on the jeweler for pushing you to go smaller than you wanted! The best time to size your rings is in the summer when your fingers are their fattest. My finger size changes from being larger in the day to smaller at night. I use those plastic ring gaurds from Claires when it''s night or in the winter & that takes care of my problem.

Best thing to get them off is "Windex"...I feel like the dad in that Big Fat Greek Wedding thingy! It works much better than lotion!!

And, if they really get stuck..you wrap thread around your finger and basically cut off the blood supply and squish your finger. Just make sure that you keep one end long and untangled so you can get the string off! A pair of scissors probably wouldn''t hurt either!

My finger can change size drastically throughout the day, between temp changes, barimetric pressure changes, consumption of alcohol or salty foods, etc.

Sometimes it fits great -- other times it is way too loose, which really bothers me and I am totally conscious of it. If my ring is too tight, that makes me really irritable, too!!!

I really need it made a "tad" smaller and then it would be a perfect compromise between the two extremes, but it just seems crazy to alter it a "smidgen", and the jewelers think it won''t make a difference but I''m convinced it will.

I already have suffered from major knuckle problems, which have been only made worse over the years from trying to pry a ring over it each and every day for 17 years since I was engaged.

Now I have to have an arthritic shank on it (the Lockshank) which opens and closes because I have a full size differential between my knuckle size (5.5) and my finger size (4.5).

Does anyone know if sizing beads would work on a regular (not arthritic) shank if you have a full size differential? Is that too much? I would love to scrap this Lockshank and just go with a regular ring with sizing beads but I don''t think it will take care of the full size gap differential I suffer with.

This whole thing really bums me out, so much so that sometimes I just want to throw my ring in the safe and leave it there, or sell the diamonds and never wear a ring again.

I''ve thought about wearing it on the right hand, but I''ve just never been comfortable with a diamond ring on that hand and also it bums me out that I cannot wear my e/wedding ring on my left hand like the rest of the world!

Thanks for listening to my rant....

Yes, i agree, you should size it to 6 1/4. I have eternity rings and originally my rings
were 6 1/4, and were so tight, all day, night, morning, etc...I couldn''t even get them
off, anytime of day.
Then i got them sized to 6 1/2 (had to remake, since eternity)
Now, they fit alittle loose in winter, since fingers are not swelled,
but now that summer is here, they are perfect, alittle tight, but not so tight
that i need lotion to remove them. I think it''s better now that i have tried both ways
to have it alittle loose in winter, and alittle tight in summer. Fingers definitely swell
in warm weather, I know that now, so it''s impossible to have it fit perfect year round.

My e-ring and wedding band are soldiered (is that the correct word??) together. My e-ring is a 6 now, and my wedding band is a 6 1/4. Can they resize rings that are soldiered together, or will they have to take them apart again?

Oh, what a bummer! Finally you have both rings, and they are too tight. They will have to break them apart and then re-solder them together, but it''s not a big deal (solder is the term). I inherited 3 rings that were soldered together and I had them separated, by the time all was said and done I couldn''t tell at all.
