Hi! An avid reader of the CS forum here, and I thought I come out of hiding, partly because I'm at a lost of what to do and partly because I'm in dire need of a major and fun distraction from the arduous task of ridding our house of bed bugs (makes me see opening our home to traveling friends differently )

I was gifted a gem by DH on a recent trip visiting his parents - we chose the tsavorite together and I'm so thrilled with it, both with the sentiment it comes with and the gem itself. We weren't expecting to purchase anything on the trip but it was an impromptu visit to gem dealer friends of family friends' and I was taken in immediately by this tsavorite's color. It's not quite the medium dark green that would be considered "top" but it's a beautiful medium green with little to no yellow (to my novice eyes) and the clarity is amazingly eye clean for a tsavorite.

My only decent photo of the tsavorite (please excuse the finger prints smudges) - fyi, 4.5 years of stalking CS has not taught me the finer details on image embedding - a tutorial would be much appreciated:

The photo was taken with my iPhone in indirect sunlight. It's currently nightfall where I am so I cannot post more true-to-life photos until tomorrow, but I would love some input from this forum's imaginative experts and enthusiasts. The stats: 1.03ct, ~8.5 x 3.5 x 2.5mm - so, it's long but very skinny... I really would like this to work as a right hand ring. I think 18kt gold (yellow or rose) is a definite, but the rest of the design is elusive. I think the skinny aspect of it is throwing me off. Perhaps a 5-stone ring? But which side stones? Or a colored stone halo? Bezel and then a colored stone halo? Or something else that is radically different? LoL as you can see, I'm uncertain with what to do, which means I can't shop and compare setting quotes and save appropriately... And I'm not sure if this would mean anything to folks: I am aiming for "future classic" - different but could be considered timeless in time.

First off, sorry about those pesky bed bugs. It's a huge undertaking to wash and clean everything. :angryfire:

Secondly, congrats on such a wonderful gift. You picked it out together and you love it and that's what counts. Although medium darks are the ideal, I am very biased towards medium toned tsavorites too. Unfortunately, your picture link does not work. Use the "upload attachment" tab at the bottom section under the area where you type your reply. Choose the file you want to link, click "add the file" and you are done.

Based on the dimensions, the tsav is super long and skinny. You are going to need a custom setting for this one. Yes, a multiple stone ring will work best to even out the sides. Baguettes set N/S, 2 on each side, with the shortest one out the outside. Not knowing the details of colour and cut, I'd be cautious about bezeling or halong it for now.

Ah, thanks Chrono - trying again. I did hit refresh by accident and lost the original post and uploaded image but mistakenly thought I could somehow re-use the original upload url.

It is indeed super long and skinny which wasn't on my mind when I bought it ha - but the emerald cut (didn't realise I forgot to include this info!) makes it work aesthetically for me :D

re: bed bugs - tell me about it! Even with having a fumigator in, I've bagged everything including the couch and chairs so we've been sitting on the floor LoL

I agree with Chrono and tend to like the med green's better with Tsav.

Yours is lovely and I love the EC. For something classic like this I would do a 3 stone ring with EC sides    It would be perfection!

I'm going to repeat what others have said and say it will look great with what I think of as the art deco classic of smaller emerald cut diamond sides. There seem to be a few acquamarine rings around here that have that classic look, if you want to search for examples.

This is what I had in mind. Now all we need is a photoshop wonder to change the center stone into a green colour. :Up_to_something:

Yes, that looks awesome!

Thanks for the replies, everyone! EC side stones were my first thought too but I thought it might be a challenge to find side stones that would compliment a center stone that is so skinny and also, I thought maybe the classic 3 or 5-stone ring might be too classic. I basically question whether its proportions make the tsav a good center stone candidate - i.e. this is suited more as a less dominant stone in a cluster ring of sorts. (This would be a custom project.)

A-typical 5-stone rings that I've been looking to for "inspiration":

I'm having trouble feeling inspiration from those examples because they look cocktailish and they are more square than rectangular. With the 8.5 mm height, you cannot add anything else above or below it. You cannot turn it sideways either because now it becomes 8.5 mm across. The only space left to work with is the narrower 3.5 mm side. I think if you look for baguettes rather than emerald cuts, you'll find your search easier. You have other 5 stone options too but they are going to be very expensive due to the uncommon shape (trapezoids).

VL is da man! :appl:

Thanks so much VapidLapid! It really helps with visualization - I do like the idea of 5 transitional emerald cuts together :-). I know what you mean, Chrono - which is why I thought the stone might not be a center stone after all but could be used to compliment another stone. I just haven't seen settings with center stones that long and thin, unless they're gigantic stones. On another note, gosh, my tsav looks rather brown and dull next to those cocktail rings!

To make it look a little less classic you could do it 2 tone. White gold ring with yellow gold prongs. It would make the green stand out more.

I love this

I was literally just looking at that! And was looking at this: https://www.artofplatinum.com/vault/carre-diamond-five-stone-ring

Sarahbear, I agree the gold would make the green stand out - I wanted to go with a yellow gold setting and perhaps plat or white gold prongs for the side stones.

April: I like your last choice. I think you're getting there!

oooohh - what a lovely lovely hue

I have been looking around at settings for step cut green stones and saved this one

your stone could look something like this...

I love his a lot too

Also i cannot remember wear. But i saw one that had like 3 thin long baguette that were perpendicular to the center stone, where lile the middle Baguette is linger and the two on each side of the middle bagguet are shorter. It was pretty neat

Oh my gosh, that setting would look so great with this stone! Lovely stone btw :)

CS never cease to amaze me! You're all so amazing, brainstorming with me! I had to step out and I came back to a plethora of suggestions :appl:

The sun is finally out and I really wanted to capture the green that I see. Frankly, the first photo looks a bit brown and I don't see any in real life. Also a bit of perspective on the relative size to my hand (my ring finger is just under 4 US). I don't think the photos that uploaded to PS look correct color wise though.

Hmm, this is odd - the uploaded photos look really yellow compared to the original photos when I place them side by side...

I'm off to explore your many suggestions!
