As noted, I went with ERD and Mark to create a ring that was similar to a Daussi halo.

These are the CADs

I went back to ERD because I was still set on a more floral halo from the Daussi cushion. I also asked them to 'widen' the basket a bit. This is the result:

And the final set of CADs from which the ring was produced:

I liked the final CAD with one concern that there would be too much metal between the halo stones but was told it wouldnt look that thick in the finished product. So onto the result:

(I have to have the ring resied, hence the ring guard. Also notice the missing diamond onthe left petal)

And the ring next to the Daussi that was the inspiration:

Obviosuly there are differences from the Daussi. The melee is a little smaller than I was expecting and there is a lot more metal between them than I had hoped, and the scalloping isnt as pronounced, but the proposal went perfectly and she loves the ring so all in all we are happy. Overall I'd say the process and experience with Mark and ERD was a positive one. Unfortunately, one of the stones has fallen out of the ring after two days, so I have to email Mark about that (and having it resized). As a side note, Mark included an appraisal with the sales receipt. The appraisal was ~20% higher than the sale price. Is this typical? I have friends whos appraisals are almost double.

Anyway thats the story. It was a rather long and stressful few months but thanks to this board and Mark for all the help in getting it all done. Cheers =)

As far as appraisals go they aren't worth the paper they are printed on usually. They are typically extremely inflated for insurance purposes. The fact that Mark's appraisal was only 20% more is actually a good thing as it is realistically what you would pay for a replacement.

As far as the ring I have kept up with your updates. While it is personally not my style I think it is very pretty and all that really matters is that your GF, opps sorry!, your FI loves it! I do appreciate though the different versions of halos we see on PS. It is nice to see something new and different from the classic HW halo.

Glad Mark is doing the resize and melee fix. I can see how upsetting it would be if 1 fell out after 2 days!!! That has happend to me before where 2 diamonds fell out. The jeweler fixed it right away and since then I have had no problems at all. It has been over 5 years!

EDIT: For all sorts of typing mistakes!

I actually havent spoken to Mark yet but I am assuming he will take care of it.

I'm sure he will. I think ERD has excellent customer service! OOps and I'm so sorry for all the spelling errors! Wow I need to drink more coffee!

I am sorry to hear you still have some issues with the ring. I think when you are so involved in the creation of something itd easy to nit pic everything that didnt live up to your vision. But im so glad your FI loves it!!!!!

I think both the stone and the setting look nicer than the insperation.

Congratulations on your proposal and you have a fiance in your life now - wonderful!! :appl:

I have never worked with ERD, but PS is full of wonderful stories of how good they were to work with and their amazing customer service, so I would have no doubt that Mark will make it perfect for you - size and missing melee!! I think it looks V E R Y close to your inspirational piece but as Nielseel said above, when you are that closely involved, you can see every possible minute variation from 1 to the other. As a neutral observer, I prefer yours to the Daussi!! Turned out very sparkly and lovely!! Congratulations again!

Yea while not dead on I think ours looks more like an ER than the Dauissi.

Oh i totally agree. A larger melee would have swallowed the center stone (the way the daussi does) this one has the style she like while still emphasizing the center stone

Plus look at the two rings together. The center stone of your has so much fire comparatively... Unless thats CZ haha. Then not a good comparison
But still looks so firey

I think it turned out quite lovely. I like that it is a bit different than the multitude of halos that I see these days. Sucks about the melee falling out, but it should be an easy fix. I noticed also that the center stone looks a teeny bit crooked in the prongs (rotated slightly clockwise in the pics). Am I just seeing things? Maybe you could have ERD check that for you too, while they have it. Anyway, congrats to you and your fiancee!

Very nice! Appraisals that are double the purchase price are worthy of the garbage can. No one in their right mind would believe that and who wants to pay double the required amount for insurance! 20% is ample to allow you to wait awhile before reappraising and raising the insurance value. Be glad he did it that way!

I hate to say this because I hope it is just the photography, but your center stone doesn't look like it is set straight to me, or else perhaps the stone isn't symmetrical. I just thought if it is an issue, it could be fixed when the ring is sent back for sizing, etc.

Yea I actually noticed that as well (with regard to the center stone) and I plan to ask Mark about it. I will say thought living in NJ it is quite a pain to have to go back to the city for this.

Ditto diamondseeker on the appraisal and the center stone. I agree that it looks as if it's not set straight. I'm sure it's an easy fix when you get your melee replaced.

It's gorgeous and I also prefer it to the Daussi side by side.

I would tell ERD that and ask that they send you a shipping label at their cost, and also have them ship it back to you at their cost. You shouldn't have to be inconvenienced for their mistakes.

I absolutely agree!!! Most of us never see the vendor's store. We do it via distance all the time!

(I guess I had my reply window open when the person ahead of me posted about the stone not being straight because I am just now seeing that she posted that right before I did!)

The stone doesn't look straight to me too ... worth it to get it fixed and it should be easy.

I can understand that, but the premium would be like $30 more per year to have it insured for several thousand more.

Only reason I even questioned it was because everyone else I know had theirs appraised at a higher percentage of their purchase price, from various vendors (Online, NYC and B&M)
