OMG, I am so glad that Garett is getting better. I, too, had a kitty named Atticus with FIP. Unfortunately he lost his battle at only 15 months old. He was the light and love of our lives, and we miss him deeply. I am just so glad that your vet was able to help treat your little boy! God Bless him.Date: 5/11/2009 9:48:25 PM

And finally a picture of one of our babies, Gretta, we just celebrated their first birthday. She was okay with her new clothes as she''s okay with pretty much anything, we didn''t bother trying to dress her brother Garett though. A couple of months ago we took them to the vet because we thought he was getting a bit thin, and he was behaving strangely - very cuddly and uncharacteristically lazy, and he had some bald patches. We found out that he''d gone from over 12 lbs to 9.1 in just under 2 months and had severe jaundice. The bloodwork was inconclusive but our vet was quite sure that he had wet FIP (a disease that''s not well understood, but is more common in shelter cats (which he is). There''s no cure and treatment can only delay the inevitable for months, if you''re lucky, it seems.) but put him on a long-shot 7 pill a day prednisone/nutrient/antibiotic regimen for hepatitis... the weeks following awful. We both felt so worried, and so guilty - about thinking it was worms, not taking him in sooner, not feeding him the right foods, not noticing that his skin was yellowish, any number of things. About a week after he started his pills he began to eat voraciously, but even then we''d been warned that the prednisone would make him hungry so he might still be terminal even if he looked to be gaining weight. To see him getting visibly heavier and livelier and not know that it meant anything was even worse, in some ways.. But now, it''s been 9 weeks, our home scale says he''s back to 12.4 lbs, his fur is growing back in thick and healthy, he plays with his sister and runs away from hugs and petting like his antisocial old self. He''s going back to the vet this weekend for more bloodwork and we''re both hopeful that he''s really, truly okay. I refused to take pictures of him while we thought he was sick, since I''d just bawl looking at them anyway, so the minute he''s pronounced healthy he''ll be the star of a loooooong photoshoot and I''ll be back to post a pic of him, too
