Fun Thread! I''ll play:

1. Platinum - I''d really like a Leon, we''ll see on budget...
2. 1.3-1.7 (I have super long piano-player fingers - need coverage!)
3. Oval or Cushion - I love how romantic ovals look
4. I think when the time comes, I''ll be the main coordinator - we tend work well when it''s something really important to me, he knows I like to be part of the decision making process. Plus I''m an internet research junkie!
5. Yep - size 6 -
6. Again, I''d be more than happy to have GOG source some ovals for me, then Leon solitaire!

Question, Rob: if you weren''t planning on proposing until 2008, why did you start the process so soon? Were you not sure how long it would take, or were you worried prices of metals would keep going up? You waiting for an anniversary or something? Sorry if that''s too nosy, am just curious.

And if I could pick somewhere for him to propose, it would be anywhere beautiful. I love castles, so that would be ideal, but I also think going anywhere special that''s somewhere I''ve always wanted to go, or somewhere that means something special to us, would be perfect. If we had the money, I''d want him to go all out on some sort of trip simply because I''m addicted to travel, but we don''t. Anywhere pretty, especially if it''s got some personal significance to us, would be ideal.

Do you have ideas of where you''d like to propose? Or be proposed to if she beats you to it?

Hey Gwen - no prob. I just REALLY loved the process of research, design etc. and now I have it which gives me the flexibility to propose whenever I want to. We have only been dating for less than half a year and just moved in together. I know that she is "the one" but she is not the person to get rushed (funny to say that after she decides to move in so quickly). It was already a huge deal for her to move in, so one thing at a time I guess. We may go to Europe next Spring and that may just be a great time/place to propose! But who knows. So the "waiting game" is really more of a psychological thing than anything else. If it were up to me, I would propose tomorrow. But now I get to keep the ring and can look at it every day!

I wish I would have seen this earlier! I like this.

1) Platinum
2) I''ve been trying on solitaires between 1.25-1.38, 1.38 being a bit big. So somewhere in there.
3) Round brilliant
4) BF and I have been looking together in store, so he knows that I''m looking at just a plain simple solitaire and plain wedding band
5) Yes, I was sized when we went shopping (4.5)
6) At this point we haven''t decided. I''m all about saving money where I can and would consider buying online. However, I''d like the convenience of knowing I can go to a local B&M where my ring was purchased at and have it cleaned/inspected without a problem/fees. Time will tell.

Hehehe, that's great! And very sweet. I like you; you sound like a smart guy.

1) White gold or platinum. I don''t have a strong preference either way (maybe that means that I need to do more research, but I think platinum might be a bit of a stretch financially anyway, so...)

2) Again, I don''t really have a strong preference either way. I''d like it to be over 0.5 ct. I suppose the 1-1.2 ct range would be ideal. I would personally feel weird with anything over 1.5 ct as most people we know are in the 0.3-0.7 ct range, max.

But, I''d sacrifice size if it meant getting engaged sooner. (I sometimes tease SO that the longer it takes, the bigger the ring required... like interest on a loan. But he knows I''m totally kidding!). I actually have NO idea what size I''ll end up with, to be honest! Not a clue as to what he thinks is reasonable! I told him I have no real expectations.

3) Round brilliant solitaire, with a pave or channel set band.

4) He asked for ideas, so I sent him a bunch of pics online. And we''ve browsed a little bit in stores as well.

5) He actually measured one of my rings in order to get it and I had no idea! It''s a right-hand ring that I wear on the ring finger of that hand. I know sometimes fingers aren''t 100% the same on each hand but it''s a pretty good ballpark. I didn''t even know that he''d done that, til he caved and told me later. Cute!

6) I suspect it will be some kind of custom job but probably not online (I''ve no issue with it and would go that route but I don''t think SO trusts online... which is fine)

1) Platinum :) always have and it is fairly unusual here in OZ :D
2) I wanted between 1.4-1.7ct and I ended up with a 1.37ct but the moment I saw the cert I knew it was meant to be seeing the diamond video sealed the deal for both of us :)
3) She is be a GIA triple EX Round Brilliant :)
4) I picked the diamond within a budget he loved her as well and he will design the ring with Leon :) all I specified was swoopy lines, pointy claws, platinum and an raised shoulders :) the rest is up to him :D.
5) M-M1/2 according to sizing charts this makes me a US 6-6.5 I have still to confirm that though he knows my size ;)
6) The diamond is from GOG the setting will be from Leon :D
7) He plans to propose in Europe :) can''t come soon enough :D

I'm already engaged too, but this looks like fun!

1) what metal do you want your ring to be? Platinum, white gold, or yellow gold?

-Mine is white gold. I actually preferred that over platinum. My mom's jeweler actually suggested white gold because platinum can be really difficult to keep shiny.

2) What is your preferred carat size of your ring?

-Mine has a center stone of 1.35 and is set in 1 carat of diamonds.

3) What cut do you want your diamond to be?

-I initially wanted a round (which is what I have) but now that I have my ring I actually think a cushion-cut or princess cut would look better. But my ring is still gorgeous
Insert smilie

4) Did you tell your boyfriend what kind of ring you want, or is he picking one on his own without your input?

e knew I wanted something Edwardian and we initially picked out what I thought was my dream ring setting... until we were in St. Thomas on vacation and found the setting I feel in love with!

5) Does your boyfriend know your ring size?

-He knew it.

6) is your ring going to come from a jewelry store, or will it be ordered online?

-We got the setting in St. Thomas from a jewelry store and the diamond from a store on jeweler's row in Philadelphia, where we live.

Oh, fun-fun!

1) Platinum
2) around 1.2 -1.3 carats
3) cushon but I also like rounds
4) Oh yes, he knows! I''ve showed him a million different variations of what I like. He has is thoughts on it too and I imagine he''ll do something a bit unexpected with it as well... I trust him with it.
5) yes!! We had a bet about it one day. I thought I was a 6.25 and he said I was a 5.5. We bet that if he was closest I would buy him a new pair of dress shoes (that he needed badly) and if I won he would get my car detailed.... needless to say I''m a 5.5 on the nose! I think he cheated!
6) no clue. I would love it if it was done by Mark at ERD, but I''m sure the BF has his plans

Metal: Platinum or white gold.
Carat size: around 2, but 1.75 would be great, and obviously bigger would be just fine with me!
Cut: Emerald or Asscher
What he knows: I told him what cut I like and that I like white metal. I''m planning on telling him I love halos too, but I know he doesn''t want too much guidance.
Size: I know he knows it''s very small, and I''m pretty sure he knows it''s around a 3 from another ring I have.
Online or store: I don''t know where the ring will come from, but if I were picking, I''d order it online. I do not like jewelry stores.

Okay - some other engaged girls piped in, so I will too:

1) I would have loved platinum, but I knew the cost would shrink my diamond size, so I told FI that I would be happy with white gold - and got what I asked for! Truth be told I think I prefer it, now.

2) I secretly wanted 1 - 1.5, but I''m happy with what I got, a .90ct with a great spread.

3) I always wanted either an asscher or an Emerald cut.

4) I did the picking of the setting - I fell so deeply in love with it, that I just sent him to where it was and he didn''t have to do any guesswork.

5) Yes, I told him ahead of time it was 6.5 (it was kind of a guess, actually - not a bad one either).

6) It was all ordered online. He never would have gotten this ring into his budget at a B&M

1. Platinum or white gold
2. 1.5-2.25
3. Cushion
4. He will probably follow what he knows I like since he doesn''t know much about jewelry.
5. Yes, I think he''s asked before.
6. Probably a combination or getting the stone from a broker or from online and getting the setting at a store or Leon''s
2.gif

7. I would hope that if he did propose he would do on or after our two year anniversary. Which would be in the fall.

I''ll play!

1. I wanted either white gold or platinum, but since platinum is too expensive for our college student budget we went for the white gold

2. HUGE! lol literally as big as possible *drool*, but we decided on a lovely .53 carat stone

3. I always wanted a round brilliant because they''re classic, but now that i''ve been on PS for almost a year i''m really liking the fancy cuts for any rhr''s!
27.gif
, my engagement stones are three round brilliants

4. I had a folder of rings flagged on the knot and he pointed one out, and that was my favorite too, so we sort of picked it together. Ajaffe ME1279

5. Yep, he took me to get sized when we looked at the ring in person to see if I still liked it, ring size 5 1/4

6. He''s buying it from one of Atlanta''s best kept secrets, amazing diamonds for amazing prices. Wheee (jewelry store btw)

No chance Atlanta''s best kept secret is AmericasMart Jewelry floors? Good lord do they have a lot of jewelry there!!!

oooo..fun!! i wanna play!

1) what metal do you want your ring to be? white gold
2) What is your preferred carat size of your ring? anywhere between .80-1.25 (i would like 1ct)
3) What cut do you want your diamond to be? always thought i''d want a princess cut but tried some on and now....round briilliant all the way~~~
4) Did you tell your boyfriend what kind of ring you want, or is he picking one on his own without your input? i think it''ll be a collaborative effort
5) Does your boyfriend know your ring size? he should....but probably forgot. not never good with details like that
6) is your ring going to come from a jewelry store, or will it be ordered online? probably a store...a bunch of his friends went to the same jeweler in the diamond district (NYC) to get their e-rings, so we''ll probably go there.

Fun fun fun!

1) Platinum
2) well in my dreams I''d love 1-7 -2.0 but I think I''ll be lucky to get 1.2 1.3 maaaaaaybe 1.5.
31.gif

3) RB H&A
4) I was adamant that I be able to give imput on what I want. I''m way too picky to have him just go out and choose. And in my mind I feel like it''s a huge amout of pressure for a man to have to do that knowing it''s the most important, significant not to mention expensive peice of jewelry his woman will ever wear!
5) told him my ring size
6) it will be bought on line with 100% thanks to PS!!!!!!!!!

I''m not getting an engagement ring right now, but my boyfriend has told me I will when we''re both out of grad school, paid off, etc (This will probably be a few years after we are married)

1) I think I would like palladium--I''ve heard good things about it, and platinum is so expensive.
2) I''d like a 6.5 millimeter (so like 1 carat) blue sapphire
3) A round blue sapphire, with two round brilliant side stones. In a trellis setting.
4) We picked out my wedding ring for this summer together. A rose gold eternity band set with pink sapphires.
5) Yep, a 6.5. Alas, skinny fingers do not run in my family, but compared to the other female hands in my family, I got lucky!
6) My wedding ring is from online, and I bet my e-ring will be too.

How did I miss this thread the first time?

1) What metal do you want your ring to be? Platinum, white gold, or yellow gold?
White gold band with platinum head. Both wedding bands will be white gold.

2) What is your preferred carat size of your ring?
3 carats. But that's because it's a Topaz.

3) What cut do you want your diamond to be?
Again, Topaz. Oval. Supernova cut.

4) Did you tell your boyfriend what kind of ring you want, or is he picking one on his own without your input?
He has a page of information with everything spelled out. Even diagrams. He asked for it after we went ring shopping.

5) Does your boyfriend know your ring size?
Yes. Although it fluctuates. It's also on the page of ering info.

6) is your ring going to come from a jewelry store, or will it be ordered online?
Hopefully, (crossing fingers) the stone will come from the internet and the ring will be made in a local jewelry store.
