Hello

I'm new to this forum!

I need advice please!
The photos below are of my new gorgeous engagement ring.

It's a 1.37 centre stone prices cut. G Colour SI1 Gia cert. 0.3 carats on the sides.

I love the ring but there's something about it, it feels like something needs changing! For instance it's set really low is it easy enough to get set higher? If so how will this affect the look of the ring?

Secondly, I'm not sure on the band now! Instead of the channel setting do you think it would look better with (is it called an invisible setting? Where it's just a chain of diamonds no spaces no gaps? Don't know the technical term sorry!!

bearing In mind my fiancé has paid for the ring and its been set - I feel so selfish posting this!

Any comments are appreciated :) x

OOh I forgot to ask can anyone show me their princess cut pave side cut rings? If that's the term? :) any size will do! :)

Could you post a profile shot? You want the head of the ring to sit higher? I personally like the durability of channel set side stones. And I think your ring is lovely as is!

Your ring is beautiful! You are obviously not 100% happy with it though. A profile shot would be helpful to see what you are talking about regarding the height of the diamond. And it sounds like you are referring to pave set side stones. Do you like the width of the band? Do you like the size of the side stones?

I think that ring is FABULOUS, and wouldn't change a darn thing. Others who know a whole lot more may disagree, but I will still think they are wrong.

I think a channel set would complete the look and take it to AMAZING.

I had a princess set similarly to yours. Just a plain solitaire with a channel set princess band to go with it. and I was never happy with it either. I could never put my finger on what... so I set myself on the road to a reset. It took a couple years to finally find the "right" design, but now I couldn't be happier.

So I know exactly how you're feeling. My reset is nothing like you're describing you want and it actually is nothing like I thought I wanted. But it's so me and perfect. So I'll be keeping my fingers crossed for you on finding that perfect setting!

I love your setting!! It looks very elegant and smooth and sophisticated! I love the channel set princess stones - I'd pair that with a channel set princess stone wedding band, if it were me!

As for setting the centre stone higher, you may find it is at more risk of damage that way. The diamond's corners are well protected on your setting, but having something set too high, could be bumped, knocked, banged... and put the whole centre stone at risk. Without a profile shot, we can't really say for sure, but from the photos provided, it seems in perfect proportion to the rest of the setting.

I do know what you mean about not liking something but not being certain what the 'thing' is you aren't happy with. Before I had my 3 stone reset by Brian Gavin, I had a B&M custom setting that was just so... so... wrong! Multiple issues, but in the end, resetting to what I have now made me happier in the end. Bottom line, if you are not happy now, you won't get any 'happier' as you wear it. Good for you for investigating options. Who knows, you may all of a sudden see the beauty in your current ring! you just never know...

Hope you find what you are looking for :))

I've gone through a similar experience except I loved my setting and wasn't happy with centre stone. I was engaged 8 years ago with a 0.83 pricness in simple knife edge solitaire and plain white gold wedding band. A month ago I upgraded to a 1.5 pricness and opted for diamond on a thin band and matching wedding band. I think this delicate band with diamonds really compliments the pricness and makes it pop. I've attached a pic. I think channel set is too "modern" or "store bought" for me (no offense to anyone it's just my personal take on it)

Good luck!

I've know gone with a halo (it's being made right now so ill post pics when that's done!)

Your ring is beautiful and really pretty on your hands! It's sleek and elegant. Understated chic. As mentioned before, it would be great with a channel set princess band. It's a classic and timeless piece, yet updated and modern.

The thing is... if 'something' is nagging, you will continue to feel this way about your ring. Try to find out what 'it' is, and also what you like about other rings.

I had a similar experience with my 1ct princess. After a few years I didn't enjoy wearing it anymore. It was too bright white, too perfect, too similar to a sparkling icecube. It turned out I like old cuts much much better. I traded the princess and my princess studs for a creamy 5.3 OEC and beautiful OEC studs (my studs are a higher colour but not bright white).

I would not change your setting, as I doubt you will suddenly like it after setting it higher. The proportions look good from your picture, but if you post a profile shot, the experts can better advice you.

It also not strange to have doubts about a ring that you will wear every day. There are so many gorgeous designs! And so many beautiful stones!!! While I love OEC's, I would also not say NO to emerald cuts, antique cushions or perhaps an Asscher. Perhaps you are just having cold feet. Think about what makes your heart sing and perhaps you can upgrade in a few years (not necessarily change the stone, but the setting). In the meantime you can wear this setting which is really very pretty. All the best!! :wavey:

Thank you for your lovely and lengthy detailed reply!

I know the variation out there is crazy!!!
It's also surprising how little high street jewellers seem to know about the different cuts/ styles (from personal experience)!

I think I'm going to send it off to be set higher and see how I feel.
I chose the ring but my guy actually officially proposed last night so I feel completely different about the ring now, as if almost I feel I don't have to change it- wierd how that can happen!

Have you got a photo of your ring?! I love seeing how different everyone's rings are!

your ring is amazing! Have you got a photo on its own? Without wedding band?

I can't wait to see what it looks like with the halo!

Congrats on your engagement. Now your ring has more sentimental value. Funny how it works. Looking at your profile shot, I must say I like the height at which the diamond is set! See how it feels in a couple of days.

I am actually in the process of resetting my diamond.
The new setting from Victor Canera is now on its way from the US to Europe. I hope to be able to wear it in 2,5 werks or so...

I agree with Acinom... I quite like the height as well! It looks totally chic as is, but I totally understand wanting to "tweak" things a bit. If you do decide to raise it, just be careful as to how high... otherwise you may find yourself knocking it on everything in sight! :errrr: :))

It sounds like you are feeling more secure in your ring choice now - it is very pretty, and congrats on your engagement! I don't know much about benchwork, but it looks like the stone is set as high as it can be, so raising it would involve changing the head to lengthen the prongs? Might involve a lot of work, not sure that I would want to mess around with the setting that much...but again I don't know what's involved with raising the diamond. If you do check with your jeweler, please let us know, I'm just curious!

Your profile shot shows a very well proportioned setting, in my opinion. I think that's the perfect height to not risk damage or scratching yourself (or others) or any of the other risks involved w a higher mount.

Its very beautiful! I hope you continue to fall in love with it... :))

I love your ring! I like the height it's at, myself. I agree that you need to try to determine what's bothering you. Can you try on higher set princess rings before changing yours? Also, try on wedding bands - that really changes the look. Will you be going for a matching band? Plain band? Engraved band? I think lower is more practical for day-to-day wear - not snagging, hitting things etc. I don't know your'e taste, but what about milgrain along the channels? A simple addition that I think would be lovely. Try not to make a hasty change, though.

Your ring is so beautiful!!!!
